4G63 FD
« on: July 21, 2012, 11:24:24 AM »
I picked up an FD chassis last June.  I have wanted to do this swap for a few years now but could never pull the trigger and actually buy one. The car is a full street car, air conditioning, power steering, etc.  I am using the RX-7 tranmsission with a B2600 bellhousing. We made an adapter plate to fit the Narrowblock 4G63 to the Mazda Bellhousing. I also had to mod the subframe and drop the steering rack to fit the motor. I used the Samberg bumpsteer kit and modified it since I needed to drop the tie rods a bit lower.  Just about everything was fabricated/built in house including paint.  The car is a blast to drive as it makes 520whp on 93 octane.  It dead hooks 3rd gear and slightly spins 2nd gear with 275/40/17 regular Nitto NT05's thanks to boost by gear and traction control via the AEM series 2. With a full tank of gas and me in it the car weighs 2890lbs.  This is the setup:

-6bolt 4G63 bottom end
-CP 9:1 pistons
-Magnus Aluminum Rods
-O-ringed Block
-ACL Race Bearings
-Mild Port 1G head
-Supertech 1mm valves
-Kelford 272 cams
-Magnus Cast Intake
-Either Precision 6266
-Custom Radiator
-Custom Exhaust manifold
-Custom 3" Exhaust
-Custom FMIC
-Custom IC Pipes
-Tial BOV and WG
-Custom Exedy Triple disc Clutch
-Walbro 400 intank pump
-Magnus fuel rail
-Aeromotive FPR
-AEM EMS V2 Honda box with custom wiring harness
-Braided AN line on everything including the power steering and A/C

Have you ever considered running E85? I know 6262 evo's are making 600+ with it. Build looks good - I don't even want to know how much those rods cost.

I thought about it but its not regularly available by me.  If more stations start carying it then I will think about it.  We made 520whp@26psi and there is still another 5-6 psi in it on pump gas alone if I really felt like making more power.  Since I am new to the car I am going to keep it at this power level for a little while before I turn up the boost.  I expect it to make 550-580whp with the boost up on straight pump gas.  On E85/race gas 6266 powered 4G63 will make between 730-800whp.   I got my rods as part of a trade for some other parts I had but if I had to buy them new they are around $600-$700.  I built alot of this car with parts I had leftover from my old car or other parts that I had put away in case I ever decided to build another car.

Thanks guys.  I can't say that I'm the first to do it.  There are three other cars with the swap.  One is a full race car with an auto, the second was overseas, and the last one isn't running yet.   I've been a 4G63 guy for a long time and have loved the FD since it first came out so putting my favorite motor with my favorite car was an easy choice.   :D    I was shocked to see how light the car was.  I am hoping with the Enkies on and less then half a tank of gas I might come in under 2800lbs with me in it.    I will put it back on the scales when my rims get here.  The color of the car is Carbon Grey Metallic from the Porsche Panamera

How much does an engine + transmission combo like yours goes for? I am curious.
