I own a 13000 acre grain farm. I also own a gravel trucking company, a construction equipment rental company, a small oil company. It's now 8:50 and I have paperwork to do and I started at 5am. The only reason I'm home is because it rained so no harvesting. I'm at the point I'm ready to sell off some of it and slow down a bit. I think I drove my car 3 times this summer and it felt wrong to be doing it because I had other shit I should be doing .

I have an Associate's Degree in Automotive Tech from NDSCS and worked as a tech for 5 years and got tired of fixing everyone's problems. Now I am slinging parts for Harry... Except his name is actually O'Reilly. The employee discount has helped my project along greatly. I am actually pretty good at selling parts and telling people how to fix their cars as long as they know what a wrench/ratchet is and are willing to listen. Plus having $5K in Snap-on, Matco, Mac tools in the garage at all times is nice.

Drew, I do not know him.   I like it overall, I am corporate management, aka non Union though.

Okay, he's probably a low level minion. I bet it wouldn't be so bad non-Union. The techs always made it seem like it was hell out there though, outdated architecture, not enough equipment, etc. Are you in the data center over by Brotherhood Mutual?

Yessir, Oakbrook drive.   We have a mix of new stuff and ANCIENT stuff.   The techs play in a different sandbox than I do though.

My first job post high school was as a service advisor and I don't envy you one bit. You got a pissed off customer on one end then a pissed off mechanic on the other while you're in the middle trying to juggle bookings to get vehicles in the shop and out the door on time. All the while you're supposed to be trying to upsell people and making the business as much money as possible from a customer who wants it done for as cheap as possible. Then the parts department forgets to order shit and the customers on your ass like white on rice. You were out of loaner cars 2 days ago and you have sales people at your counter demanding that their customer gets one ASAP. Then there's the comebacks because your mechanics that are on flat rate are trying to put as many vehicles through their bay as possible in a day forget to put something back together properly and again you're the one getting shit on yet again. Then you always get the asshat whose vehicle was off warranty a year and 20 thousand miles ago at your counter bitching that his tires are wore out because his cars out of alignment because you made them hit a curb :yay:.

That about sum it up?  :D

I surf the internet all day at work and MRI patients in between.

I currently do this. But if I don't pass the registry by NOvember 1st I'll be unemployed. I haven't been studying enough so I'm mega stressed.

That makes me feel .05% bad about the service adviser that I DESTROYED at the local Cadillac dealership.   In fairness he basically called me an idiot and tried to rip my little sister off for 2k.   It didn't end well for him and I don't believe he's employed there any longer.

In 3 weeks not doing anything I don't want to do.  I do like my job tho and I would put in an application to continue in my profession driving a train at Disney World or Siver Dollar City but the wife doesn't want to move.

Quinns, I worked in the oil field for 30 years and had a few wells.  Loved it and thinking about getting back in but it's so expensive now.  Winters really sucked with lines freezing up and stuff and since I'm cheap I had a backhoe/trencher and tried to do everything myself.
You can make a barn door fly with enough horsepower.

Retirement at last.  Wife's not happy, I bought a '66 Rustang instead of paying off my F150.
