Getting rid of FC wheel hop
« on: March 06, 2012, 02:37:07 PM »
I've already lunched my N/A diff by wheel hopping and now that I've got a T2 I'd like to keep it intact. I'm planning on doing the rear bushings, dtss, and a pinion snubber, but is there anything else that I should do? Rear diff mounts? Subframe bushings? Any spherical bearings? Should I go for delrin or poly?

I have poly everywhere on my datsun, and I could hardly tell a difference in noise, but it felt a ton better to drive.

Also, will s4 calipers and rotors bolt onto an s5 subframe? I've got an extra s5 and would like to do all the work to it and then swap it out in an afternoon.

I did diff mounts (MMR) and a pinion snubber -no wheel hop at all -oh also the front diff mount.

I also run a OS Giken 1.5way diff

works perfect for me.

What are you doing with the car? drag?

General shenanigans, drag, maybe an autocross if I feel brave.

I would say do all the diff mounts and a snubber -hammer the shit outta my car and have had no problems -running 285/40/17

drag maybe a different story -I drift

So what about the control arm bushings and subframe bushings?

Do you think delrin or poly?

I did the poly subframe and rear diff bushings -left the control arms alone... the needle bearing ones are nice -but expensive.

Here's what I did and I drag race. No real perceptible wheel hop any longer. (Oh and Delrin Diff bushings)

The more soild you go the more hop you will reduce. If you dont mind the noise, go delrin subframe, delrin rear diff and a solid front diff mount. Also make sure you have DTSS eliminators, spherical control arm bearings and individual camber adjusters. Also stiffening the rear shocks may help along with better tires.

DTSS are a must -with the bushing I deff noticed much more road noise -but it did not bother me... there really is nothing comfortable about my car -at this point it's a track car.  That being said I did drive with the solid bushings ect for about 6mo as a DD -did not bother me.

When my car was still IRS it used to wheel hop like a mother early on

Only thing I did was flip the caps on the rear diff mounts and add a pinion snubber I could adjust the preload on ( it was different that what you see guys do here)

No wheel hop at all after that, even launching on mt radials out on cold roads

Care to elaborate on the pinion snubber?

I've got poly in the Z and it doesn't bother me at all, suspension and diff. I would like to keep the rx7 somewhat quiet, I bet delrin is a bunch louder than poly.

here is how i had done mine, bottom side looks the same as the top.  I had it cranked down hard on the nose of the diff

all stock wore out bushings...... only thing not stock was the diff caps flipped and the snubber.............. wheel hopped like a mother before this

cold DRs, leaving off antilag and a little NA rear,  zero wheel hop

What is the snubber sitting against on the diff?
