early car-phones .ne. cellphones.
I had a friend who had a Car Phone in his new '83 Vette. I remember it had a coil cord connecting it to the rest of the unit in/under/behind the dash (or somewhere, I don't remember, there was a lot of smoke involved...)
There were no cellular (roaming switchable wireless) networks prior to '83 though, and not much then. So most wireless devices then were just amped up shortband/CB stuff, which is always pretty limited in it's range. That or INSANELY (even for Farrah) expensive stuff. Cell phones may not give you cancer, but holy cow, the power needed for good range on some of those things would creep me out.
I guess it's pretty pedantic though. The phone may have worked in certain areas, with limited functionality, but it wouldn't have been a "portable phone" in the way we think of it now.
The TV is pimptacular. You know Huggy Bear would have wanted one of those.
