'04 Cobra IRS in FC Questions
« on: November 23, 2010, 03:17:46 PM »
I have the opportunity to pick up a low mileage '04 Cobra IRS that has been pretty beefed up (came out of a car with nearly 800 to the wheels).

My question is... What out of these pictures do I and don't I need? Car will be utilizing some type of coil-over suspension in the near future as well. The current rear is the factory TII that came in the car and is being built for nothing but road racing... So I figured the TII isn't going to withstand the test of time. (...or is it...?)

And also, what's the general price range for these? And what could I sell my TII diff for?

Thanks!

All you need is the center section, and inner CVs.

That rear subframe looks relatively stock...

Sell it to spacevomit.  He'll finish it.

If that's the case, why not just grab one out of an Explorer? Aren't they the same?

When I did my conversion I used one out of a 2002 Explorer.  It was an  Aluminum case with 31 spline axles.  It only has one mount up by the pinion but it is pretty beefy.  I also didn't use the Explorer rear cover because the mount on the back of it hit on the gas tank of the FC.

The short answer is no, they are not the same. Search under for my name. I have written extensively as to how the Cobra and the Explorer diffs differ.
