Hinson turbo kit impacting power steering pulley
« on: September 10, 2012, 09:09:21 PM »
I am currently putting my car together and the power steering pulley hits the cross over pipe. I have an F body power steering pump pulley and bracket. Are there different styles of F body pump brackets? Anybody with experience in this area or have this kit?

you can use an electric power steering pump from a Toyota mr2.

you can mount it anywhere.

I loved mine.

the hose from a ford f250 fits the pump perfectly & you just put the Mazda banjo bolt on the rack end.

I ran into this with my car as well.  I approached Hinson about it and they informed me when they developed the kit the car it was going on did not have power steering.  They said a smaller pulley would work, but did not give me a part # for one.  They also suggested going without power steering would solve the problem too.  GREAT customer service.  I was not too happy about going without power steering, but to be honest I do not really notice it.

How much more room do you need to clear the turbo kit?

Ahhhhh.... another wonderful Hinson turbo kit that doesn't fit ...

It has been like that for years.  A simple call to Stainless Works who makes their kit would end this problem..... but why would they make any changes if people keep buying it as-is?

People should search for reviews/feedback on here before buying anything.

Hinson kit is a joke....I had to deal w the same shit re the power steering.  I ended up cutting and rewelding the area to retain the same pulley.

We should put up a section that gives a rating and review of products... Id imagine some companies would suffer greatly.  8)

Thanks for the replies. It was advertised that only A/C was lost and there is a PS pump in the pictures. It took 3 months to get it, the communication sucked and now it doesn't fit. I went the Hinson rout to save time. Wish I just built my own.

I also called for a piston and rod quote and he emailed me a quote for 10.5:1 pistons, I replied that I wanted 9:1 and never heard back so I bought them elsewhere.

I was gonna do a write up but i got lazy.  Hinson strung me along for months as well bull shitting me about it shipping the next week, yadda yadda yadda...  He forgot to put in a wideband o2 bung...his o2 bung (yes one) sucks...I ended up adding two more bungs so I could reference both o2 sensors and hooked up my wideband.

If you need vband parts he uses vibrant.
