Yeah, everyone was totally fine.    It is what it is, can't do anything about it after the fact.

Ha screw that noise. I looked at my phone once years ago. Almost went off the road. Never again.

Glad everyone is okay. I had a similar story when I was 19. Driving to college behind an SUV in my 86 Acura Integra. SUV swerved out of the way. Old man stopped, sipping coffee on a green light. It was my fault sure but for how angry he was.....I asked if he was color blind. Stopped yelling after that. Apparently he really was but I still got dinged with everything.

LOL, you ever used a Ford Sync (Microsoft Sync) system?   It's like 4 different screens with 1-2 seconds per screen to change sources fully.    Texting probably would have been way safer.   I -know- how to do that by voice in the car though!   Haha

Seriously though, I really am pretty good about leaving my phone in my pocket while driving, too easy to lose track of time if you're dicking with it.   I used the voice control for everything, you can send/respond to texts with it pretty decently (though sometimes it just displays them on the screen, which probably isn't any better than on your phone, really).

I do use my phone for navigation though.   The Ford Nav was garbage and out of date.    The BMW has A) better NAV and B) can actually talk to the phone's Nav to give me directions.    Using the phone Nav is, again, probably a bad habit, even though I was usually listening to it moreso than starting at it.

All that said, when I was a dipshit teenager I put a TV in my center console, and I -know- I watched that driving before.    Teenagers are dumb.     You can enable the ability to do that in the BMW, and people are all about it.   Even if it was for my passengers, there is NO WAY that's a good idea, period.    I mean, these are grown ass adults, you'd think they'd know better.

I've NEVER liked a touch-screen in a car.  They have NO FEEL whatsoever, and you're forced to look directly at the screen, and worse yet, allow time for your eyes to focus up close, to change every setting in the damn car.  :o

Give me controls that I can identify by feel, and after a short time I'll remember where each one is so I never have to divert my attention to change the temperature or adjust the radio.

For the same reason I prefer analog gauges.  It takes much less time to scan for any needles out of place than it does to read a bunch of digits and mentally ID what's normal and what's not.

I hate that there's nothing to support your hand with in using a touch screen.  If you're driving the pointer finger is waiving all over the place floating in air trying to get that button.  With analog at least you can peg your  thumb against something or let you finger touch down before committing to the button press...

PS came in here looking for pics of the new ride.  *Hint hint*   The link is dead and I'm curious about the color combo that was such a mind changer.

The BMW is all physical controls, no touch, which I vastly prefer having gotten mostly used to it.   The modern iDrive works really, really well.

I'll have to get pictures, apparently it's a pretty rare color combo, I can't find another example with the 3 options mine has (Jaobta Brown Metallic paint, "Oyster Dakota" leather and Anthracite Wood with Pearlgloss Chrome (it's a muted chrome) combo).    I'll see if I can get it cleaned up nicely this weekend and snap some decent photos.   :)

Pictures as promised!    FWIW, I already lowered it on H&R springs in these, but the drop is pretty minimal, about 20mm all around.  It was way too high stock.

That looks great.  I see what you mean about the interiors taking it up a notch.

I guess brown is the new black because that exterior looks more like charcoal or some such.

Yeah, it’s not brown really.   There is brown metallic in it, but it’s an earthy gray more than anything.
