ARP Crank bolt procedure
« on: August 22, 2018, 03:46:58 AM »
The installation instructions for the ARP Crank bolt are different between ATI and ARP are different.

ATI say to use high temp rtv on both sides if the washer and Tighten to 230 ft ib .

ARP say to use the supplied lube on threads and washer then tighten to 235 ft lb.

Who do I go with?

The OE LS crank bolt has an integral washer with a seal to prevent leaks from any oil that gets between the crank and pulley, I would suggest using a small amount of sealer on the washer as suggested by ATI and the usual ARP lube on the bolt threads.

I've always used the ARP method and not had issues.

I didn’t seal my arp bolt on the stock damper, I haven’t seen an issue with leakage.

My existing setup is ATI pulley with standard GM bolt. The bolt was covered in oil so I have to assume it wasn't sealing. It may even be the cause of what I though was a leaking crankshaft seal.

In case you didn't know, the stock GM bolt is TTY so don't reuse it.

I did thanks. This is the third time I've removed the pulley so that's why I ordered the ARP one.

Just make sure you are using a tool to push it on and NOT the bolt. It will kill the crank threads. All you needs is some all thread, a nut , couple thick washers and a properly sized pipe.

That being said, I've done both. If it leaks, use silicone.

I emailed ATI.... No response. One thing I did manage to completely overlook last time was that you are suppose to fill the keyway slot with silicone.

Still got at least a week until my bolt turns up :(
