You can't blame a trucking company, they want you, they need you. They just can't hire you because their insurance will not allow it.
I'd keep your political opinions to yourself in that industry and I guess any other industry than a millenial tech startup, I've spent the last 5 years on the road with oil and gas and with OTR drivers, you don't get anymore American than these guys.
If you have a CDL and somewhat of a dodgy record, look into oil field work. If you start on the Frac side, it's easy, you work your ass off every few days and get 100+ hrs a week.
Hauling sand in West Texas you can pull in $100k+ trucking sand back and forth, OTR is a waste of time. Owner operators are profiting around $150k in the oil field. My good friend is hauling crude with a hazmat & tanker and sent me pictures of his paystub at almost $3500 a week minus what uncle sam will take. That is driving for a company not owner operator, he had 3 years of CDL experience before that.
Not to discourage you from the trucking field but you there is a reason why there is a shortage, I've gotten my ass handed to me by the DOT, people trying to make you crash into them for a paycheck, eating out of gas stations for weeks at a time etc. .43 cents a mile is dog-shit man. I made $93k my first year in the patch, didn't drive a truck but once.
Hope this helps, good luck.
