Can you V8 swap a RHD RX7?
« on: June 19, 2018, 04:41:58 AM »
Was thinking the transmissions for the LS by and large tend to be for LHD American cars. So in its regular configuration, an American V8 swap/transmission would be awkward as hell in a RHD RX7 to shift with your left hand going far left for first gear and 2nd, and gradually working your way back towards the right. Or am I overthinking this?

Spotted this one for sale, why I had to ask. Some of the JDM cars coming from overseas are really nice examples of the vehicle.

Sure you can.    And transmissions in Japan aren't different then here, first gear is in the same place.

Quite a few Brits and Aussies on here.

Gunnytron's is a good reference:  http://www.norotors.com/index.php?topic=12880.msg176042#msg176042

Some others here also, clutch master cylinder is one of the main annoyances.

RHD vehicles in England have the same shift pattern we do here.

It takes a few minutes to get familiar with it, but it soon becomes nearly as natural as using your right hand.

I still think the pattern is optimized for, and works a bit better for right hand shifting.

Yep, there's a few over here. Give me a shout if you have any more questions.

Things to note when doing a RHD, you have less room for the brake slave, headers aren't easy to get hold of (though I think Ronin are working on some), and RHD wiring diagrams are pretty much non-existent.
