Alternator signal wire? LS6
« on: June 23, 2016, 04:09:06 PM »
Im pretty much finished with the wiring harness for my LS6 swap but i wanted to make sure that i get this part right.
I have the Pez harness and i noticed that the alternator signal wire (red) is coming out of F body ECU pin 15 on red.
However, this cable is cut off inside the harness before it comes out towards the wrong of the engine.
Was this cut off because the alternator signal needs to come from the Mazda harness? Or could i simply get the signal from F body ECU? If i need to get the signal from Mazda ECU, which cable do i hook it up to?

You need to use the fbody signal to kick it on...  What I suggest is taking it to an alternator shop and ask them to put on a self exciting regulator.  Basically, once the regulator notices that the alt spinning it starts charging.  its like 30-50 bucks to install one.

This. If you use the GM PCM, you need to put a resistor in. I and many other people have had this resistor fail trashing the alternator. Search the self excite mod on here and it is pretty easy to do yourself.

Oh wow. I didn't know this was an issue. I was planning on running a signal cable into it witj resistor. So you are saying with this mod I can completely get rid of signal wire and simply have power in and power out cable??

The only wire going to the alt once the mod is done will be the 2 or 4 gauge wire for charging.

if i decide not to do the mod by the way, i would just need to get signal out from F body ECU Red connector pin 15 correct? would i need the resistor in this case like if i was to get signal from mazda harness?
