i previously had a build thread for my mr2... it failed so hard. i never updated it and it quickly fell apart. Im not going to procrastinate and update this as much as possible for everyone!
Over a year ago my buddy bought a white ls1 rx7 Fd and i fell in love. I only got to see the car a hand full of time... with all the atention he got and how much i loved the car, i just had to have one. it was never possible with such a low paying job but that soon changed.... a year later, i got a job with the local village making 3x the money than before so my dream came in sight. I sold my mr2, i sold my beater and picked up an integra. With all this extra money i put my eyes on the internet, searching day and night "rx7 Fd Ls1". Watching every video i could find, learning about pros and cons of each swap kit and the prices of everything. Soon i found the one i thought i wanted. Only problem was it was Way to expensive for what it was. After 2 months the guy did a major price reduction and i decided to jump on it but fell short... it was gone....
A week or so later i made a post and the guy who bought it messaged me saying hes willing to sell blah blah i told him i was interested but wanted to know more
Now listen up, i was told this,.... the suspension was junk and clunks, the car has rear qtr panel damage but the rest of the paint is all good. as for the interior he removed the roll bar, the passenger handle was bad and the shift boot was cut. thats it. brand new brakes all around.. And best of all the engine and trans are great! He drives it every day.... so i made an offer and he took it right away. a day or two late i paypaled the money and i officially owned a rx7!!!!!!
12/7/15! the car has arrived! I ended up having it shipped because i was nervous of breaking down on the way home... its a 15 hour drive from North Carolina to Chicago illinois...
First sitting in the car i noticed the door was very hard to close and my seat was almost impossible to move forward... im short 5'5... I couldnt even figure out how to get the car in reverse haha!!!!!!!!! i have been driving 5 speed manual all my life so this was so much different for me. Anyways.. i drove it around the block and the seller was right! this suspension was god awful! It clunked going in a straight smooth line...
i noticed when the guy was backing it off the tailor that when he hit the brakes the turn signals goes on....wtf? turned out it was just the bulb in the wrong socket... but still i paid alot of money for this i shouldnt have to deal with dumb fixable stuff like that. bullcrap aside i fixed it. quick simple and painless =]
Basically this is everything i was greeted with that i wasn't told about (pictures below)..... i was so pissed off when i got in the car and i saw a big hole in my pillar, center console basically doesn't even sit even and lifts right off with no effort and my drivers door handle was broken so bad... its like how do you forget to mention these things...and the drivers door is still not closing, i have to slam the piss out of it to close. man that makes me mad too
my drivers window goes up crooked and the trim falls off the door almost. behind the seats is missing the radio speakers so i have giant holes....Now about the paint... i was told that the rear qtr panel was the only thing messed up but its actually every panel of the car that needs work... paint chips all over the rear bumper, hood is dented from hitting the swap/intake.. passenger door has a big dent on the lower side.. paints basically chipping off both doors... i have been with the car for a total of 30 minutes and i find all of this but then i message the seller and he just gives me a blank. 'i never had any of those problems"......HOW does the car get dented up and interior all broken and cut up on the ride to my house!?!?!? sorry im ranting right now just so mad!
sorry ill try to move onto something positive... but here i am giving the car its first wax in my ownership after washing it
alright so with it all washed and waxed i removed the wing because i like wingless rx7's more... and here we were a few days later. i tried to drive it and found out how impossible it was to get into gear.... reverse is like a rock to get into and 3rd and 4th grind if its anywhere near cold.... anyways i eventually got the car warm and test drove it. heres my next issue. at 60 mph + there is a massive vibration and it gets worse the faster i go...another item to figure out. it gets worse in 6th gear too...Also my speedometer wasent working
oh and i also adjusted my shifter from crooked to more straight if that makes sense...i like it idk.. i also noticed that there was no nuts on the shifter plate so i fixed that up.
Ok so today after work i called a friend and he let me barrow stock suspension and sold me two things =] Corvette covers and a rear diffuser!!!!
