After seeing this video
when it came out, I liked the idea of having something that weighed next to nothing just to tinker with. Didn't really care for all the wood and household switches, but it is a good concept.
Last week I got to thinking I needed something to put the engine in that had been sitting in the garage for 5 or 6 years now.
The engine is 100k+ mile 5.7 that came out of my dads 96 Z71 pickup. He was sure that the noise that he was hearing was the engine going out, so he had the engine replaced. That noise was still there after he had it replaced...
Anyway I was browzing Craigslist and came upon this RX7 with no engine, but already set up for a small block chevrolet.
I sent him a message wondering if he wanted to trade for a revolver. Turns out. Yes he did. LOL
Here is one of the pictures off Craigslist.

Going to have to do something about the hood.
Anyway Friday after work I loaded up my son and headed off to pick it up.
It was so light, Three of us pushed it up on the trailer.

So the first big problem was the door handles wouldn't work. On either door.
The rear hatch worked just fine and the shocks held it up.
It was a little rainy on the way home, so I climbed through the hatch to roll the window up.
Rolled it off the trailer Saturday in the rain and waited for a break to give it a small bath.

Washed it with simple green and a scrub brush.

Got it in the garage and popped the hood. It wasn't even bolted to the hinges...

Need to do some cleaning here also.
The interior is beyond nasty.

Got the driver side door latch working again. It just needed some lubrication and finesse.
The passenger door latch is another story. Apparently someone else didn't figure out it needed lube and looks like they used the hammer method of trying to get it to work. I'll have to figure out a way to get the latch open to replace it.
Pulled both seats out, the carpet, the shifter and some of the insulation last night.
I'll get some pictures of that soon.
Not sure what to do with it. Lemons car comes to mind if I can get it together cheap enough. Otherwise I'll gather some parts together as cheap as I can
and have some fun with it.
The 68 special name comes from me telling my wife I was going to trade a 38 special for it. With some friends over, she goes to make a joke about trading a 68 special for a car. We got a good laugh out of that.
