My new to me 2JZ FD
« on: October 18, 2015, 04:39:16 PM »
Hello all! My name is Alan and I recently acquired my first FD. Let me start by saying while I had always intended on acquiring an FD at some point, I never could have imagine acquiring one quite like this.

I got the car about a month ago from a friend of mine who previously had owned a Supra. After that car met a very untimely end, he pulled the drivetrain from that car, dropped everything into an SC, and then that car met an unfortunate death as well. After a string of bad luck, he pulled the drivetrain a final time and coincidentally ran into this.

It was a rolling chassis FD with an automatic transmission. He acquired the car, ordered the subframe and mounts from Tech2, and swapped everything into that car.

From there he was restationed to Germany and some point in the last couple of years the front suspension collapsed, the fuel pumps went out and,the focus on the car changed. The car has sat dormant the last couple of years, down but not out.

My friend got out of the military, came back to Atlanta, and then took another job back in Maui. Shortly before leaving, we began talking about the fate of the car as it was sitting in storage, in Germany, collecting dust. He had recently started another project and after a few hours drinking, and going back and forth, I became the cars new owner.

I've arranged for the car to be brought back to Atlanta as of last week. The car is scheduled to be picked up from storage next week and should arrive in 4-8 weeks.
This the second car I've bought sight unseen so I'm hoping to keep my streak going as the last car I bought has been great to me, C5 Corvette I gave to my dad.

With all of that being said all I have knowledge wise of the car is what I have gleaned through several conversations with my friend about the car, and pictures I've stolen off of his Facebook. Here is what I can tell you about the car:

1993 RX7 w/100K+ on the cassis (I am now the tenth owner of the car)
2JZGTE+R154 utilizing the Tech2 Swap Kit
Built Bottom End
Stock heads
GT4276 Turbo on a T4 Manifold
4" FMIC
4" Exhaust
AEM Standalone Fuel Management System
Twin Aeromotive 850lph Fuel Pumps
880CC Injectors

Here is what I know needs to be addressed:

Front left suspension is blown
Turbo, Wastegate, Exhaust Manifold, Intake Manifold, and exhaust need to be reinstalled as well as intercooler piping
Power Steering Pump and Water Pump need to be reinstalled
Accessory belt needs to be reinstalled
A/C needs to be reinstalled (Motor does not have a condensed on it)
Radio Doesn't work
Seats are torn

All of the stuff I need to get the car running again is coming over with the car. The rest of the stuff I will figure out once I physically have my hands on the car. All of the parts associated with the motor were removed to facilitate the removal of the power steering, something I intend to keep.

My goal with the car is to make it a daily I can take to the road course and within five years run one lap. As I said the car will be picked up next week and I have asked for pictures to be taken before it gets loaded onto a flat bed bound for the port. But without further ado, here are all of the other pictures I have of the car.

Yep - There is something about this Generation of the RX-7s.  No matter what shape or form you acquire an FD - You will always have very special memories of how you got this car.

Welcome to the Site.

It always seems to go that way with cars for me. I had a Speed3 before my C5 that I got on a whim with a dash of luck of the draw type situation. Paid 12K for that car 4 years ago with 24K miles on the car. Made money on the Speed3 and bought my C5 4 years ago sight unseen on autotrader for a steal as well. This car kinda falls into the same pattern. Although I am breaking a cardinal rule of mine which is to never buy someone else's project but the previous owner of the car is a very good friend of mine who I trust with my life. So when the opportunity came a long it was simply too good to pass up.

Quick update on the car guys.

Vessel containing my car arrived in New Jersey last Thursday but the entire container my car is in was flagged for inspection by customs. Car was transferred to customs on Tuesday so I'm hoping it clears by Friday and is on a truck on its way to me by Monday next week.

I've ordered all the belts, and gaskets for the car. Also sourced a set of OEM wheels for the car. Only thing I need now is front suspension. I was also informed that in addition to the pump gas tune I posted above, there is also a race gas tune in the car good for 736whp ;). More updates as I get them.

Looks like a good swap.

Redo the wiring and also the way the lines are connected to the fuel pumps... make sure that line is fuel rated hose to be submerged in fuel.  Probably not.
Make sure a -10AN wire goes from a new relay to feed those pumps all the way from the relay.  The factory wiring when running hi output pumps will fail and leave you stranded from overheating.  Been there... done that!  Use a quality BOSCH relay and some POS Chinese one.  Those fail too.
