485hp 01 Trans Am
« on: March 28, 2011, 05:54:08 PM »
My little brother found this car in Dallas. Were going this weekend to looks at it and possibly buy it. The guy is asking 6,800$ for the car. Its a 6spd with (485hp 500tq) Im going with him so he doesn't get ripped off. What are some things I should look for during inspection?? Im going to have him pull a couple plugs to see what they look like. I guess he works at a dyno shop and said we can dyno it before we buy just to show that its really built. One more thing can that power be achieved on stock ls heads??

485 RWHP?    Not likely on stock gen III heads, unless he's spraying a pretty healthy shot on it.

With that much torque it was definitely sprayed.

Well I just got off the phone with the owner of the car, and it has AFR heads, fast intake, eagle rods, bigger fuel pump with injectors, long tubes, and more. It sounds like the real deal. I guess he is part owner of the dyno and said it will be no problem to run it. I'll update this thread on Friday.

I thought that too. heres a list of the things the car needs.

1. Needs tires
2. Needs brakes
3. No hood
4. No front bumper cover
5. Wont pass inspection as is.

I think thats part of the low price.

Still not a bad price based on the engine and trans as a pull out.  Especially considering it has a set AFR heads.

Then you can always sell the car for scrap metal.   Any chance you wanna sell the heads?  I've got a stock set of 853's and a ported set of 853's that I'm running now that could trade with cash so you'd have a set of heads to put back on the car.

Cause an RX7 unibody far exceeds an F-body chassis  :D  But you probably already know that.

Aaron, ever go to Kellers on Saturday nights?  Sounds like this car has probably been there.  If it stays warm I'll probably go this Saturday.

Well that was a wasted trip. We got to dallas around 4pm friday and the car was beat to shit!

It looked like someone took a ball ping hammer to the car in many places over and over and over. He said the car had a few little dings and 30+ is not a few thats a fucking LOT.  He said the interior was in decent shape and was not, both seats were torn to shit the dash had been taken off and not put back on properly.

As far as the engine it seemed really sound and ran great. It did have the AFR heads and long tubes.

Wish i would of taken some pictures.
