1985 RX7 GSL - 5.3L L33 & T56
« on: July 05, 2017, 02:06:55 PM »
After a lot of consideration, I have decided to sell my V8 powered 1985 RX7. It has been fitted with a Chevy 5.3L L33 V8 backed by a T56 transmission. The engine is an all aluminum "LS Series" engine used in some GM/Chev Trucks. The transmission came from a 1995 Camaro Z28. I have owned the car since 2011 and the swap was done in 2013. This has been a great car for me and a blast to drive. It is a phenomenal handling car with brand new Tokico Illumina shocks/struts installed last year with 0 miles on them. Compared to the rotary, it gets great fuel mileage (24-26mpg city/30mpg highway on regular pump gas).

Below are a few things to be considered. I will be very happy to discuss any of the following in detail. This is a great car that needs just a bit of attention at some point in the future.
•   The blower motor is stuck in the defrost position and will not change, but the fan speed adjustment still works just fine for the interior.
•   The radiator does leak from a cracked tube and only leaks when the radiator is full. The car can be driven, but will need to be repaired before too long.
•   There is a bit of damage to the driver's side fender. This should be an easy repair if desired, but not necessary for safely driving the car. (Can be seen in the picture)
•   The power steering gear box will also eventually need to be rebuilt. I did rebuild it when I did the swap, but the worm shaft wasn't preset properly so the wheel will not turn 100% all the way right, but does work just fine. Does not need to be rebuilt to be driven safely.
•   The battery will need to be replaced as well, if I am able to afford the battery before I sell it, I will eventually replace it or take the cost of the battery off of the car ($130 - $150).

Approximately 160,000 miles on the body and around 100,000 miles on the motor. About 20,000 miles on the rebuilt T56 transmission and many of the brand new parts I installed when I originally did the swap.
