Borg Warner WC T5 transmission slave cylinder
« on: July 21, 2015, 03:46:14 PM »
hi im a new user and new to the whole v8 rx7 scene aswell, i recently purchased a 1986 rx7 with a v8 swap specifcly an ls1 305 with a WC T5 transmission which is a 5 speed.

when purchasing the car the seller had driven it for me and it seemed to shift fine but did have a sticky pedal.he said this was just because it neeeded to be bled. i par8ked it up for about 3-4 months before pulling it out again as it was winter and i did not want to stress the engine because it is carburated and had a lot of trouble staying running due to the severe cold we had this winter.

when i got around to it the clutch pedal was jammed so i gave it a good push and it depressed but with a very worryinng sound sorta like a bang. when i removed the slave cylinder and master it turned out that the slave was siezed. now i ordered a brand new wilwood master but i am having trouble finding a slave that works with the wilwood it is a 7/8" bore master cylinder. i was wondering if any slave will work with it or if i should get a completely adjustable set up? what have you guys done that works? Help would be greatly appreciated this demon of a car has me by the balls i should add it is an external slave set up and the one that was on it is a stock rx7 slave which the seller has informed me will not dosengage the clutch fully.

also when i pulled the slave and master off they both had DIY pushrods and the hydraulic line from the master to the slave was just clamped onto the fitting which i am assuming let the air into the system causing a sticky pedal

everything else is fine and summers going by quickly i would love to drive it before i do any of my own modifications although i have bery very big plans for this demonic fc haha

Here are two examples of t5 hydraulic clutches

Rosehill has a clutch bracket and slave for t5. Might have to scroll down to find it.

The clutch setup will have to be custom to make it work. It would probably be easier to reconfigure what you've got and use another Mazda unit on for the slave. You will definitely want to make a new clutch line

Are you sure you can't get the hydraulic setup off off a GM product? GM is one of the only manufactureres to offer a hydraulic t5 setup.
Other than that, the t5 mostly came with a cable clutch setup, but you can google "t5 hydraulic clutch conversion" and get much information on how to do so. Especially with the mustang crowd.

Also, you don't have an ls1.

Double check what you have.

A carbureted small block with a t5 usually came from a mustang or camaro/firebird.

You said ls1 305 and mentioned that it was carbed. It's either Chevy Gen I 305
Or a ford 302.  I'm saying ford because there is a custom slave setup, GM f-bodys did have hydraulic clutches.

Is the distributor on the front or back of the motor?

http://www.norotors.com/index.php?topic=86.0  This is Bikedads build thread, he was running 350/t5 with mazda slave.
Both the above links are for Ford slave systems as they push toward the front, gm pushes to the rear.
Just change out what you have, you might have to move the release fork push point to get full release.

ok my bad i was told it is an ls1 but you are right its a chevy 305 and the distributer is at the back of the engine and the fork is pushed to the rear of the car not the front, i have the weekend off so im gonna look through your suggestions and figure it out hopefully something works.

honestly i did not think to take the master/slave setup from a GM product how dumb of me. i will get back to you guys as soon as i make some progress.

thanks a tonne guys.

If it's a Chevy set up.  Take ddv8 suggestion and try something like bikedads setup for GM. Both the ones I showed are ford t5 that push the clutch lever the opposite direction.  But master cylinder setup would still be the same.

Before you go buy GM parts, make sure the original mounting hardware for them are still there.  If the previous owner is using the Mazda slave cylinder, then he may have not had it all there.

Lastly, if you were to buy a GM slave cylinder, the master cylinder would probably still work as long as it can move enough fluid.  Buying some 1/4 or 5/16 angle iron and modifying it to fit with the Mazda unit would probably be your cheapest route to getting it on the road.

i just spoke with the previous owner and he informed it is actually not a mazda slave but an older style after market wilwood slave that is off the market. im going to have a look tommorow and get some pictures up aswell. i know forsure the bracket for the slave right now is not setup to fasten a mazda slave so maybe a gm slave is the easiest way to go for now. will update tommorow
