Pacific North West members? (Seattle, WA in particular)
« on: June 12, 2015, 01:09:05 AM »
Hey guys. So I'm moving from Southern California to Seattle, Washington in about a month. This is a major life change for me.

I'm selling my LS1/Rx-7 FD and really depressed about it. Was hoping to connect with some of you guys up North. See a first gen/FC/FD, I don't care... Car meets, in particular. I know of at least one guy in Bellingham  :yay:

Probably won't be settled in for at least another month or two, just want to see who is out there. You guys are like my brothers man.

Woot woot!  Seattle has a pretty good car scene.  Probably the most popular thing going on is Cars & Coffee every sunday at Renton TownCenter.  Tons of Lambos and Ferraris and all kinds of other rare exotics (dozens if not hundreds of them) you can even meet Sir Mixalot if you like.  Drifting is big as the FD circuit comes through Monroe to Evergreen Speedway every year.  There's a handfull of Grassroots guys that have worked their way up through Pro AM and gotten their pro licences through the events held there.  There is drag racing and road racing that goes on at Pacific Raceway and Bremerton Raceway and there's a new track that's a bit of a drive called the Ridge which apparently is pretty badass.

I come down to Seattle somewhat frequently so we'll have to meet up sometime.  There are quite a few V8 RX7's in the area, but they're hard to keep track of....

I live about 30 miles north of Seattle. This is a great time to move to Seattle. The weather has been great for summer and is much earlier than we usually see warm weather.  As Matt said there is plenty of motor sports activity in Washington. The ridge motorsports park is a great new track and is opening a kart track soon.

Good to know there are motorheads up here.

Man so I've been up here for a few weeks now. The weather is crazy nice. It's been hot too... even got some rain haha. So do you guys still drive your "fun" cars in the winter? I know it can get kinda dreary/damp... so I guess that's when you add the upgrades?  :P Once I get my bearings I'll try to get involved in something or meet you guys one day.

yes, you picked a strange year, weather-wise, to move to WA!  Normally it's 75 degrees max and very comfortable all summer long... this year has been abnormally dry as well.  The wet & dreary weather will start up in October and last until April, it is perfect weather to work on cars in your garage or shop.  Glad you are enjoying it thus far, we all do have to meet up soon.  I am going to be down tomorrow with my wife to pick up some new pets, if it were just me I would say we should grab some beer

I'm headed that way next week for 6-7 days.   Portland, then down the cost to Crescent City, CA.   Woohoo.

If you aren't busy next Wednesday afternoon there is an scca track day at the ridge motorsports park in Shelton. I will be there in my FC. It is a cool area to check out if you haven't been to that side of the sound yet. They are also opening up next week a 1/5 scale kart track of the full size track. http://www.tracknightinamerica.com/events/1970392-201508-the-ridge-motorsports-park

I may try to do something if I can get free.   I'm in California Tuesday night, but back in Portland Wednesday night, so it will really depend on the previous 5 days.   I'm there with another guy from work, upgrading equipment at 13 sites throughout the region, so if we kick ass and it goes well, I'll have at least a day or two of downtime.  If it goes poorly.  Well, that will suck.

Sweet. I just looked at the location on google maps.. damn that's kinda far lol. I'll try to head out there anyway, just to check it out. The track itself looks super fun.... wish I had a fun car to drive still. I'll keep an eye out for you man.

Haha good luck man, sounds like a lot of work. Portland sounds like a pretty neat town, I didn't get to hang out there on my drive from CA to Seattle, but I hear there are a lot of places to eat/drink and fun things to do.

Not trying to plug my event but I'm holding a car show/drift event at Evergreen Speedway on September 12. Maybe try to get a small NoRotors meetup there? They have a beer garden and food for a reasonable price. I'd be able to step away from my organizational duties for a bit if you guys decide to do something.

Make sure you go to Powells City of books while you're in Portland..

Other places:
Voodoo Doughnut (the one off 3rd, not on the east side)
Hit the food carts down town, best food in Ptown.
Dantes off Burnside as an entertaining bar and good pizza
OMSI is fun if you like science and industry museums
There's a really good burger joint on the new waterfront area near John's landing... can't remember the name of it....

All I can think of atm... if you end up in Tacoma or able to road trip, go to Lemay's Car museum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Triple-XXX Rootbeer In Issaquah is a fun food stop for car nuts... Saturday afternoon/evening cruise-in all summer, and many Sunday themed events(i.e. mopars, ferraris, mustangs, 4x4's, VW's, ratrods, etc...) that bring big groups.

RTC exotics- Redmond Town Center every sunny Saturday morning at Redmond Town Center 8-10AM.

Next year-June 24-26..... Northwest Drag Tour(search it on Facebook) a smaller PNW version of HotRod's Drag Week just started this year. three tracks in three days. It will have two classes N/A & Power adders, and (if enough cars) those also split into back-halved cars  and stock suspension (need at least 8 cars/class). Rule details on the FB page, but here are the basics- NHRA tech,  must be a street car(plated, insured, basic interior, dash, etc), driven between events on the same tires you tech in on. tracks TBA.

I must go to the LeMay museum sometime.... I think a meet there would be cool.
