FD strut bar clearances
« on: April 28, 2015, 07:31:34 PM »
I know it's been asked before. But i was wondering if there are strut bars other than improved racing that will clear the LSX intake. also hood clearances for aftermarket hoods as a lot of scoops recess below the hoodline into the engine bay. The reason i ask is because i noticed after modifying my hood to add vents, there are 2 spots that touch my improved racing strut bar. Not enough to make me worry and change it but enough to ask the question. With the rediculous amount of manufacturers that make strut bars i'm sure someone has had some kind of experience like this.
Tanabe, GReddy, mazdaspeed, TCsportline, corksport, RE Amemiya, which ones fit? With or without rail covers? how much clearance? Hood clearance issues? Anybody?

the factory R1 bar works in my '94/LS1 with a little modification, the bar mounts needed to be rotated a little to make it parallel with the top of the intake by taking out the through bolt on one side and twisting the other side with the bar mounted, I just used a big adjustable wrench, then unbolting the other side, bolting the bar into the unbent other mount and twisting it to match. There is very little clearance between the bar and intake, but that car has solid motor mounts so the engine doesn't move around too much. I also have a IR bar but I haven't tried mounting that one on the car so I don't know how close it is to the intake.

I was going through your build thread and found a picture of your engine compartment and looks like you have quite a bit of clearance between the bottom of your IR strut brace and the intake manifold. as I mentioned above I'm using a stock r1 strut brace which just clears the intake manifold but certainly would not clear plastic coil covers, there aren't any on the engine in my '94.

found this in the ronin section while randomly looking at stuff. I guess cusco fits with no fuel rail covers

I had Cusco and it is very tight. Needed to ground it down on underside and raise up ends.

that's about as tight as the R1 bar on my '94.

Jesse,

I will tell you that the bar you sent me does not clear the LS2 intake. I have a little room to play with between the pan and rack so I might try to shave the rubber puck mounts to see if I can get it to fit.

The ls2 is even lower and it still didn't fit. :-( going to try to space it up a little.
