Update: Porsche not RX7
« on: May 21, 2014, 07:30:02 AM »
Well I missed you goofy bastards so I figured I would come back and say hi!

So in my unending obsession with cars I couldnt leave well enough alone with the Porsche.  I have decided to keep the 6 speed (for now :) ) and just mod it along the way....one of these days I will figure out a way to make 0-60 in first gear, 0-100 with one shift...I think I have figured it out but it aint easy.

So far I have gone with a X-pipe catless exhaust and both a 93 octane and a E85 tune.  Doing an exhaust swap on a 911 sitting on the ground in a parking lot is not a ton of fun btw.

All I can say is HOLY SNIKEES!

These two mods woke the car up so much it is nuts.  First it now sounds amazing.  On the E85 tune I punched it in third at 100kmh and it broke all 4 wheels loose for a second.  The car is a ddifferent level of fast now.

Now the bad news.....the stock clutch is giving up the ghost so that isnt going to be a cheap fix....

The other issue is I am already looking down the road and thinking about upgrading the rods, injectors, intercoolers and possibly turbos.  All those should be good for somewhere in the ballpark of 800awhp and 800ft lbs which is just fucking stupid.  Damn slippery slope!

Hope all is well in this neck of the woods!

Hah, that sounds like fun Mike.   I'd love a car like that if I ever had the means.

Believe me I dont have the means for it.  I see the money the Porsche guys spend and I realize I am in the wrong line of work.  Next time a doctor tells you they dont make enough, call them a liar!

budget $3-4K for a good clutch installed if not more......

To do a fully built motor and turbos/intercoolers/tune.... $30-40K is my guess.

This is why I own the LSx RX-7.  I can do all the work myself.... not paying $125+/hr and the Porsche parts markup.

Is a modified ZR1 looking a lot more attractive now?  ;)

Titan makes a nice turbo kit with out the Porsche premium pricing.
I think they sell clutches and other stuff at reasonable prices as well.

I am working a deal right now for a stupidly awesome setup....I will keep you all up to date.

and Mark, yes, clutch setp is around 3k plus installation.  I can do all the work myself if I had a garage.  They are actually very easy cars to work on.  Hell even a connecting rod swap is a DIY job!
