Little ones are supposed to be less stable.

He's right, and wind has less effect on larger helis as well.  You can set a Shuttle up to be rock stable or hair trigger twitchy depending on what you want, so once you get good it can keep up with your abilities.  You can change that a lot just in the transmitter in a minute or two.

unless you own a turbo ls9 rx7 you do not know what the fuck you are talking about.

Ok you guys just figured out what I want for Christmas since I have no ideas. I've had RC cars, boats, and planes, but I put them all down 10+ years ago when helis were $1k+ minimum. Those Blades look inexpensive and fun. Which one should I get? is there something better for < $300?

I'd look at a Blade CX and/or a Blade mSR for a first heli.    Cheap, easy to learn, and simple/cheap to fix.   :)

Not a heli, but I'm digging the 1/16 Revo from Traxxas right now also.    60-70 mph and very tough.   That's pretty sweet for <300 dollars.  :D

So, I ended up selling the Trex I had when I started this thread...  without ever flying it.  I was afraid to break it.    3 years later I've been flying a Blade mCX2 and a Blade mSRX for a while now and just got a new collective pitch (mCPX) bird to start with.    I think it was good I sold the Trex, I'd have killed it a couple dozen times at least.   The little ones take a lot more beating.

I can fly the mCX2 with my eyes closed now and the mSR I'm USUALLY pretty good at (I can run a few batteries in a row with no crashes).   The mCP is...  hard.   ~20 seconds is my record for hover without it getting out of shape and having to land it.

Here's the 3 I have currently:

I have a quad copter (Blade mQX) coming to round out the collection.   :)

Blake, What radio are you using?  One of the guys at work changed transmitter to a Spektrum dx6i said it compleatly changed the charactor of his heli. I fly micro planes with a 6i and it is way easier than the supplied radio.

So, zombie topic but I just picked up a DJI Phantom "drone" on Black Friday for a good deal.   It's very entertaining, though the "auto stabilization" and such in it are pretty crazy.
