Classy's 93 FD LS Build
« on: November 08, 2013, 02:54:19 PM »
I will start this thread with alittle back story on me and the recent cars I have had.  Back in 2007 I bought a 2004 G35 coupe and began my love for the VQ platform that would last into 2012.  I did light modifications to it and I really probably should have kept this car (the only car I have ever owned that I regret selling) and I deployed to Iraq for a second time.

Half way through, I decided to sell it and buy a 1997 Nissan 240SX.  It had front end damage and I had it put in a shop while I was still deployed to get the damage fixed, do some body work and paint it.  The guy did great body work, but he did not buy the body kit I requested and his paint job had runs all over it...  Then the other half of the coin was I wanted to boost the KA24 it had, no bueno because of really bad compression in the motor... so between the bad body work and the shot motor (I know KA's are a dime a dozen in a junk yard) I decided to surprise my brother with my 240SX on his door step.  No idea if it is even driving around yet...

Now carless, I bought a 2003 350Z and got alittle more aggressive with the parts and build.  Longtube headers, Wilwood BBK all around, Coilovers etc, then on my birthday, on the highway I was going rather fast and I noticed that my RPM's were staying the same but my speed was dropping, I pulled off at a gas station and heard it knocking... cylinder 6's rings failed and I built an NA motor (what a waste of money...) finished the build, and drove it for about 9 months and after getting married to someone with kids, a 2 seater 350Z would not due..

I traded it in for a 2005 300C, I hated it after a few months and traded it in 9 months later for an 09 Challenger R/T, I actually like this car, but it just isn't nimble and I don't care to modify it.

So I saved up some money and stumbled across this RX7, no motor or trans, overall car is kinda rough.  Haggled the crap out of him for 2 weeks and finally got him to my numbers.  Then I found out the back story on this gem.

It started with the carfax report saying that it failed emissions back in 2000. I guess a few years later this lady's son decided he wanted to get it running again (blown seals) and took it to a local shop here in Houston called Jtran.  He brought an "ok" motor to Jtran and they installed it but he never paid them for it.  So they held the car for a long time and eventually pulled the motor and transmission and sent the car to an impound lot.  The impound lot then held it until it was considered abandoned and re-titled it and sent it to auction.  Which is where the guy I bought it from got it.  After learning all this, I contacted Jtran and asked them about the car, turns out the story checks out and they are in legal disputes about this car.  After finding out I was buying the car, she tells me she would "hook me up big time on any work done by their shop if I could send them a copy of the title to get them out of this legal BS" I will investigate what kind of hook up that is when I have the title back with my name on it.

So here is the car right after it was delivered, not much to look at but is oozing with potential, never been in an accident, but has dings and light dents on the body.  No front bumper either.

So I decided to wash off ages of dirt and dust from sitting for so long before I place it in the garage for quite some time.  It cleaned up much better than I expected but I noticed alot of dirt and mud in the rear rain passage ways.  I ran a hose down the rain way and noticed a crap ton of muddy dirty stuff coming out under the tail lights.  So I pulled out all of the rear interior plastics, tail lights and the spare tire.  Here is what was in there!

Cleaned up!  I will get to cleaning out the trunk later.

After it was cleaned, I replaced the driver's front with the spare snapped some pictures and pushed it back into the garage, it was much easier to push now...

I hope so.

So I started disassembling the engine bay and other than the ABS, brake and clutch master cylinder and the harness, is there anything worth keeping in there?
