Pretty neat, and a story that I'm apparently (and unfortunately) not familiar with.  Looks like a talented group.

Chosin Rez was the first real offensive of the North Koreans after the UN entered the war and pushed them north, almost to China.  The Chinese were afraid that we would continue north and invade into China, so they allied with the North Koreans and gave them thousands of troops of support.  The Chosin Rez was the 1st real battle after the Chinese entered the war and we were taken off guard. We held 2 hill tops over looking the rez.  There was a small company that held off thousands of Chinese infantry for days, until Chinese armor showed up, then we had to start retreating. At least one (maybe more) Congressional Medal of Honor was given for acts during that battle.  This battle was the turning point in the Korean war when the North Koreans/Chinese pushed the UN back to the 38th parallel (when UN reinforcements arrived), and held the line, until the ceasefire was signed.

Korean war (mislableled "Conflict") is sometimes called the forgotten war. Korea was a precursor to the Vietnam war in how non-military government leaders were making decisions on how to run a war. It's no wonder our younger generation isn't familiar with this event. It's not covered in history classes the same reason the Vietnam war is not really covered. A certain party did not want to get involved in either one. The same ilk are currently ruling our nation today.

The Chosin Res was extremely brutal. If you didn't get shot you almost froze to death. The soldiers were not provisioned for this environment.

I am very very familiar with this  battle. I served in that country in 2004 and although it is very modernized there are clear signs of the ongoing war there. When I first seen a rock drop I literally was amazed atr the preparations. My camp (at the time) was considered a total loss camp. if the war picked back up it was estimated to be completely wiped off the map along with Eijongbu the city I was stationed in.

Cool, I'll check this out when I get home.

I know just enough about Chosin to know that it was super cold, I read books where people stacked bodies (that were frozen and set with rigor mortis) to try and block themselves from the wind. A different breed of determined.
