Problem with RR Caliper... does not "slide"
« on: March 22, 2012, 10:29:16 AM »
Has anyone run into this before?  I am just about done with my brake and suspension upgrades and I'm trying to re-install my right rear caliper that I have painted & replaced the pads on.  It's difficult to describe the problem b/c I don't know the proper word for the part, but the "floating" half of the caliper that slides in and out freely is not sliding in and out freely.  Any advice?

Pull the pins, clean them and grease them.  :)

Get new sliders and bolts from a parts store, should be like $20

Cool, is this a Mazda Specific Part that I would have to order from the dealership?  Surprsingly I really haven't worked with brakes too much so I'm quite a newb at dealing with them.

Honestly Ive always been able to just clean the pins with a wire brush and re-grease them to get them unstuck.  Dont see the point in buying new ones unless the old ones are damaged in some way.

sometimes they get so bad with rust that they are no longer the right diameter in areas.

Any parts store will have it.

I got it all taken apart cleaned and lubed up last night with some grease.  It was a PITA to pull the pins out but I got them out finally.  I will definitely be rebuilding the calipers over the winter  :o

I found it easier to get remanufactured for $40 a pop+core.  If you do get reman ones remove the parking cable brackets, some of them dont come with it.
