Ronin Speedworks / Re: Ronin FD Seat Mounts (coming soon)
« on: May 27, 2016, 09:33:16 AM »
Looks great! Very similar design to the Atomic Rex mounts I use to fit a Recaro Pole Position into my FD (and they said it couldnt be done!). I did have to shave down the wing to prevent it from hitting the door. FYI the stock seat still sits lower (ie you have more head room for a helmet) even with the Pole Position pushed into the floor.

Best advice I heard from my engineering professor advisors:

If you like fast cars don't work for a car company or racing team. They don't pay enough to buy you nice cars. Work in oil, defense, aerospace, or maybe startups.

I know maybe one MechE who is doing well as a suspension engineer for Pratt & Miller (C6R vettes) and he is super super smart. All the other guys designed oil pans and other boring production line things for the big 3. Those that worked for race teams (mostly NASCAR) have all since quit and moved on - probably due to lower pay and horrible work/life balance.

Bought my E39 M5 two years ago from ablake211 on this forum. Best car purchase ever. When I get to the "minivan" point in life I'm debating a swapped E39 touring as an option (wagon). Enjoy your E39!

Kevin, thought you would enjoy this

Sauber F1 factory pre-preg layup, autoclave, machining, and rapid prototyping. No sound, but still cool to watch.

Drive by cable throttle instead of the drive by wire.

24x is the timing wheel on the crank, 2005+ cars have 58x and would need work done to work with your computer.

False. The GTO still retained the 24x reluctor until 2006 when they stopped making it. 58x is what they used in the LS2 in other cars.

Atomic Rex makes a set of fixed seat brackets that can be installed very low, but they aren't cheap.

TBSS PCM pinout:
http://forum.efilive.com/showthread.php?14770-E67-pinout-Needed&s=ae26ac0f746cd23e08b4aff77194dac8&p=133281&viewfull=1#post133281

It looks like you care about these pins:

C2 pin 42 Low ref (circuit 2760)
C2 pin 62 IAT signal (circuit 472)
C2 pin 67 MAF signal (circuit 492)

I would just check continuity on those to the MAF wiring and if all three actually go there then you can assume you have same pinout as the E67 in the TBSS.

Get on YellowBullet.   There is a huge thread with racecar wiring.    Great for ideas.   :)

Are you guys thinking <$1k for the FD hood, roof, trunk? or would you expect more?

At some price point it may be better to do full paint job. I have other paint issues due to fender rolling, side skirts, and mudflaps that I would like to resolve as well.

The Lounge / Hail damage experience?
« on: June 16, 2012, 01:57:52 PM »
So we had a unpredicted major hail storm here in Dallas the other day and my cars now look like shit. The FD wasn't in the garage because I didn't clean it last weekend  :'( I'm an a-hole.

The M5 has comprehensive insurance and the FD does not. Both have 10-20 dents per panel, at least 3 panels each (hood, roof, trunk).

1) I put in a claim for the M5. Do I get a choice in the type of repair (PDR vs normal bodywork)?

2) For the FD I was thinking PDR, but will they be able to fix the aluminum hood or should I find a new one and paint it?

Electronics / Re: Fuel pump control on a E38 PCM
« on: June 08, 2012, 07:07:16 PM »
It would be better to rewire the fuel pump and bypass all the stupid fuel pump resistor crap found on the FD. Look at my LS2 wiring thread. I have a diagram of the "fuel pump mod" wiring.
