Forced Induction/Nitrous / Re: Electric Turbo - Torq Amp

A turbo is a subpar platform to do this with. Ya stick a cheap china geared blower on there with a mean brushless RC motor and a decent lipo battery pack.

Then you can get some actual decent performance out of it. A youtuber has done this. He also describes how to build what he did for about half what his cost. Impressive numbers and decent 1.4 times IMO. I think he averages about 6-9psi on SBF setup with boost falling at higher RPM. It would make some serious boost on a small cube motor.

Electric motors are coming whether we like it or not. Might as well get use to them and start with something small!  I build electric pit bikes that stomp the hell out of the modded gas bikes. Its not even a competition most of the time. Pretty fun newish tech anyway.

May have put this poor car into the wall a couple weeks ago.  :( I had a good 9 year run! After reviewing the logs, walking the track and looking at the engine nearest I can tell I hit something slick on the finish line. Made a great 8.8x pass at 154 @ 7100 rpm.  .3 seconds later wheel speed went to 178mph and rpm bounced off the rev limiter at 7950. I slid into the opposite lane and skipped down teh guard rail a few dozen times. Managed to walk away without a scratch but the RX-7 is toast.  IF anyone knows of some good caged rollers I'm looking.

thanks for the help over the years all!

'04.5 and newer engine has the better rods.... LS9 gaskets and ARP head studs with DOD delete stuff.  The LS7 lifters are hard to find right now.  I would try to find a 5.3 doesn't matter steel block or alum.... Alum preferred to save 80lbs.

If you need anything from BTR I'm a dealer as well as VS Racing (turbos).... they have a Next Gen 78/76 T4 that can make 1000rwhp for under $800.  An S480 is a T6 and huge and will make similar power for a couple hundred more and made by Borg Warner and much heavier.

norcalmotorsport@gmail.com

Looks like the VSR gen 1 T6 billet S480 is $695. (Also what I happen to be running) Is there really any back to back testing on the next GEN 78/75 T4 VS a Gen1 t6 S480?

I find it hard to believe they are keeping up being a smaller frame unit and a T4. Just curious to see some actual tests. Best I've seen 78/75 nex gen do 156ish with one on 26lbs and a 4.8. Was def out of steam. I've seen 169 out of a T6 LS3 VSR s480.

Antique store find!  1979 Mazda Rx-7 cake pan... what are the chances?  :yay: Making my kid an RX-7 cake this week!

4.8 ran an 8.80 @ 158 this weekend in the FB RX-7.

Wondering if that's a 4.8 record for an rx-7?

Only got my WG pass on video...

Still alive... 4.8 put up a new personal best last night of 8.80 @ 158.  :drive:

Made it to the track again these last 2 weekends. I found some New "old stock" racing beat FB RX-7 adjustable road racing shocks on the Mazda forums. They don't even make them anymore that I'm aware of. Installed these with some 175lb springs up front on full firm. New tie rod ends and bushings all around. The nose of the car is like a rock now. Removed the limit straps and played with the launch and rear shock settings a bit.

Finally go the new 275 pro bracket radial tire to hook.  Little room to grow on the 60' as well. Basically 4 more lbs of boost and almost running the same times as the 370" motor on 20lbs.

23-24lbs on 13* of timing. Pulling lots of power from the launch as well.

Made a few 9 sec passes going easy on it at first and trying to dial in the suspension. This was a WG pass around 12 lbs.

Do you recall the pn alt belt you used on your setup or the length? Just installed an elec pump. Interested in the no tensioner option. Did you measure length and just subtract a few mm?

Thanks.

Looking good! Should be a real runner at "big boost". FWIW bottom port only I see around 9lbs. With "method 2" I can run 30+ at less than 100% DC. I run 2 32mm gates but basically the same boost range on my old single 44mm. A 4 port will not give you any more minimum or max boost, just slightly better resolution. Not really an issue IMO.

On 315’s. Yea, if you look one page back I sold the 370 setup and threw in a gen4 4.8 with a small cam. It’s fun getting back to the cheaper JY stuff.

Runs OK for what it is, esp. with the mismatched parts. I still can’t manage to rev it past 6700 or so, RPM just hangs and accelerates slowly. I believe the converter is too tight for the power I’m making. Winter plan is to swap the converter out for a much looser 17-18 stator deal and see how it acts. I think It’s got some 8’s in it easy, if I could rev it ALOT more. This Billet S480 should have quite a bit more left in it with a 4.8 as well.

Rx-7 is still alive and kicking....

4.8 will spool the big S480 just fine. Even with the super tight 14 stator PTC converter.  :drive:

Been raining a lot here so most of the events have been cancelled. Our local 1/4 track was closed this weekend so a friend offered to tow the mazda to a new (newly reopened anyway) 1/8th mile strip in Ark City Kansas. "Mid America Dragway"

Been chasing traction all year and I gotta say It seems like new tires alone did the trick. New set of MT pro DR's with no other changes and it's back to dead hooking 1.3X 60's. Only a few runs but basically all the same. 5.7x- 5.8x @ 120-122 mph. 20lbs and 14* of timing.  Got to run a few other really nice LS swapped vehicles in the vids below. The Chevy II was running 5.5x @ 128 with twin S366's at 25lbs with nice heads, intake, cam setup. Chevelle was a SBE stock headed 5.3 with a baby cam and LJMS S480.

This was the run against the Chevelle above. Was trying to prove I could cut a light with the 4.8 spooling the big S480... Almost worked!

Looks great!

Couple tips....

Those WG's coming off at a 90* angle aren't going to control boost real well... creep may be an issue.  Gates should be parallel with flow if you want them to work well.

Id extend the coil packs so they are under the manifolds along the frame rail. Coil packs don't like to get hot, even wrapped I had issues with flipped manifolds like that. Awful close on plug wires too. (even with wrapped manifolds.)

Is it normal for the outer plunger deal to move independently from the rod in the center? I never paid much attention in the past. Recently my Glide acts like it’s slightly stuck in reverse. Trans brake holds the car fine, but doesn’t want to release it. After I release the button it takes like 3+ seconds to release the brake. And it doesn’t release smoothly.  Seems to engage reverse fine and the car backs up fine. But when I drop in to low gear the car hangs and doesn’t want to move. If I accelerate a bit the car creeps forward slowly. It acts like a hung brake caliper. Then once moving it seems fine and no longer drags.

I have confirmed all the detents on the shifter are spot on.

This solenoid has no return spring and relies on fluid pressure. Any ideas?

I see no burrs on the valve shaft. Seems to move freely.

If I could make one magically appear in that jungle gym of bars down there, I’d give it a shot. His rear suspension looks like it hangs pretty low.  Getting it to fit and remain street friendly is the issue on my setup. Experienced ladder bar guys swear an ARB is redundant if the car is setup “right”. I’ve given up on “right” at this point! I’m down for the easiest crutch to get me launching level. Not sure I can squeeze it in easily. Car really isn’t too bad all strapped down now, but I think I could hit some 1.2x 60’s if it would leave level.

Can you tell much difference with the ARB? looks like the front rise is pretty level? Was it coming up less level prior? Mine twists so bad it looks broken... Then this non-sense happens!

Nice pass! Was the reaction time that bad?  ;)
