So one of the things I knew we needed to work on was the lower intercooler tank... space was an issue down there, and it was made way too small, and didn't have a good inlet the first time around. I never intended that tank to be there forever, but after the last track day, I knew we had a problem since boost readings were low and IATs were way up. Shout out to the Infinity for keeping everything safe lol.
Here was the old intercooler setup - 3" inlet on the bottom going to a 3.5" x 1.5" tank (that tapers to 3.5" x .5") lol.
Took the core through the bandsaw and measured for total clearance
3" tube has an internal area of just under 7 sq in, so I ended up with 5.5" x 1.5" tapering to 3.5" x .5", pretty close to ideal. Came over to Anthony's with the core and some 1/8" aluminum to use his shear and Dynasty 350 welder
Now I needed to make the end tank - I measured 3 different points to maintain that ~7 sqin throughout, and got the end positioned in 3d space
Templating up the sides was tricky, got it all welded inside and out
Then I realized it was about 1/2" too far inboard. DAMN! Made a couple jogs over so it'd line up with my charge pipe (which couldn't come further inboard due to oil control stuff and my forward front structure tube)
Did a fairly average job welding this stuff, nothing to write home about - a couple pieces were clean but a couple were terribly dirty. Got em welded inside and out
Took it for a drive, and it was impossible to get a log - couldn't get traction. It's true, it's cold and rained earlier, but holy shit when the blower used to come on at 3.5k-4k rpm and start to have uncontrollable spin at 5k or so if you stay in it, it's uncontrollable before 4k now. Can't wait to get it back on the dyno.
Wow, that was a long post. Here's a picture of my gf and her gfs for your troubles. They're all practicing MD's.
The cars looks great. Love the color you chose and that Milspec harness really makes a huge difference. It cleaned up the engine bay nicely. I was wondering, did you keep A/C or did you remove it?
