General Tech / Re: ls7 dry sump oil pan
« on: October 30, 2017, 08:38:36 PM »
It's been so long I don't remember at all.  I'm 99% sure there is at least one pic if not more of the modified oil pan on here somewhere.  Maybe run a search on the parts for sale forum, I think I saw a modified one for sale when I was doing mine and it was very reasonably priced but sold.  That led me to believe it wasn't that much $ until I called Samberg and he told me what it would cost to do another one.

You can also just try and PM paul_3rdgen and see what he has to say.  He's active and the only one I know of with a dry sump setup that could help you out.

It's been a while since I did mine but here is what I remember(I just went wet sump).  You will definitely have to modify the oil pan, Samberg may or may not still do it.  It's quite pricey however, maybe $1,500 or so.  Then you have to find somewhere to mount the tank and run the lines.  To me it didn't seem worth it for a street car and the stock dry sump system isn't all that great as well.

I would see if paul_3rdgen has a build thread.  It's not an LS7, but he has a dry sump LS2 setup.

The reason most people just go wet sump, myself included, is it's so much cheaper and easier.  It can be done, but it's a hell of a lot of work and money.

It must be the car Ls2swap just sold.  http://www.norotors.com/index.php?topic=25411.0  Guy just got REALLY lucky because that car was way too cheap, probably could have gotten another 4-5k if he wanted to.

Has anyone gotten this to work yet? Or would you have to stick with a sub 100mm intake which kinda defeats the purpose of having an ls7 over an ls3?

I really don't understand this.  My setup only made 550/475...  at 2500 rpm I made 350tq at the wheels, 3000 was 400tq.  If you want a pure drag car make one and not worry about a strut bar.  I like mine to be an all purpose street car.

I just went and did a quick eyeball measurement.  My garage doesn't have the best lighting and I don't have anyone to help, but...  it's ~3/4 inch clearance from the highest point of the manifold.

My buddy has all the tools and we still need to finish a few more things on the car, so if it's close and you need a more exact number I can find out.

I installed the Improved Racing Strut Bar on my car last night and it has an LS7.  I'm using the stock 92mm manifold.  I don't think you could ever get a bar over a 102, most of the people seem to have to shave part of the top of the manifold to get the hood to even close.

Edit - added a picture if anyone is curious

General Tech / Re: RADIATOR LEAK FROM CRACKED CORE
« on: February 17, 2016, 08:39:37 PM »
I just got a brand new radiator kit from him on Tuesday after my v1 fell apart, between this thread and the one with the bad welds on the subframe is making me really nervous.  At least I know to just get it fixed and not bother Justin about it...

What is the rational for no side mirrors?

I can't believe I missed that.  Still a hell of a swap on an unfortunate car.  Somebody steal this thing.

Here is a walkaround video from when I owned it.

I knew this was your old car.  Dave is the absolutely most OCD guy on cars that I know, it should be mint depending on what the new owner did.

I'll be back on the 18th and need Rich to fix a few things and we can roll around.

I only paid $340 but the guy was doing me a huge favor. Made 550/475 to the wheels on an LS7.

Drunk before bed in Brazil so I figured it's as good a time as any to update this. Unfortunately it was just tuned the day before I left so I haven't had much fun with it yet. Spec_C was there and will vouch for the numbers as I only have my phone and can't resize pictures to post atm. Anyway, on to the good stuff.

Car has been tuned by the same guy in the same spot. NicD at AZ dyno chip for az people.  It's outside but covered, so in the summer it's what you will get here. Both engines tuned at around 110 degrees outside. The old H/C ls1 did 415/370 if I remember correctly. The new ls7 did 550/475... Fantastic numbers for me as it's hot as hell. Could make more ponies but that would only be maybe two months a year here and I ain't moving.
