Thanks for sharing the story about Renegade. I was considering doing a Porsche swap and using their kit.
On the other hand, the 997 looks better in my opinion. I drove one and almost pulled the trigger but it left me wanting. Felt too disconnected compared to the FD.
I've since talked to plenty of Pcar guys who mod the Turbos and gave tips about getting it to where I would like it more. It entails considerable GT3 parts. So I started looking at GT3's and those are just too much money for me.
The 997 is the last of the manual trans turbos and the buy-in is tempting. It's crazy how much everything from exhausts/clutches to tunes are for them. Makes me feel like it's just out of my comfort zone.
Maybe one day when I grow up.
Honestly, things are coming down. There are companies starting to break away from the "Porsche tax" norm. Kline makes a good exhaust for $2200-$2500, Silly Rabbit Motorsports makes some killer intercoolers for Sub 2k. Clutches for sub 700wtq aren't bad at $1500 or so. Cobb acessport I got for $1400. Sure not cheap but a far cry from the $5k exhausts, and $3-$4k canned reflashes, of years past. You can find cars with basic bolt ons exhaust/tune/coilovers for no more than stock counterparts so that would save some coin there.
My car is on Bilstein pss10 suspension, with H&R sway bar, and it feels pretty damn good. Swapped th GT3 shifter to the numeric racing, and it feels awesome as well.
A 911 turbo has been one of my dream cars since I was a kid. No regrets. It is the first car I have owned in a long time I wouldn't sell if someone made an offer on it(unless it was just ridiculous.lol)
That said I would love another FD or something more tuner ish to go with it. Starting to look for something nice.
