Electronics / Re: Fuel Pump burning out
« on: March 04, 2024, 02:46:40 PM »
Thanks for that.

So I found in the wiring diagram and I think the fuel sensor wire is the green / white.

It appears to still be connected via the white factory connector, and the black / blue wire is going to the ground post.

Not sure why the gauge wouldn’t be working, next step would be to pull the fuel pump hat and check the floater, didn’t really want to get into that!

Unless anyone else is any ideas or suggestions, thanks

Bringing this thread back as my fuel pump wiring issue is fixed with the racetronix bulkhead connector installed by the shop the car was at, but my fuel gauge reading is not working. Now because I never really drove the car before bringing it to this shop for the fuel pump issue , I don’t know if this was a existing issue or if it started after the new bulkhead connector was installed.

I am trying to trouble shoot this and could use some help, I have read threads about corroding ground post and it all seems to be ok (blue and black wire).

I did notice an existing Mazda connector beside fuel top hat no longer in use, is it possible this has to be connected or grounded?

The fuel warning light works but the needle is always below E.

Any suggestions?

See photos, thanks

Drivetrain / Re: Leaking ford 8.8 rear diff
« on: October 08, 2023, 09:27:11 AM »
The diff was leaving from the passenger side axel, got a seal kit from ford, 2 hours labour and its fixed.

The diff is a 3.55 which I believe has LSD, can anyone confirm that?

So my junkyard explorer 3.55 rear diff is leaking and before I bring this to a shop I wanted to get some input on the best solution.

Can this diff get re-built or is there an aftermarket diff that would be better to invest in?

Car is going into the shop in November to have a few things repaired, should this go to a transmission shop for rebuild it is this something any shop can repair?

The car has no drivability issues or noise, only leaking fluid from the diff, thank you in advance!

Electronics / Re: potential alternator issue

87 goes to starter 'S' signal
85 ground (make sure its grounded well)
86 goes to 12V+ stud terminal on starter
30 goes to ignition switch signal

so the way its shown on this write up is wrong?
https://grandmighty.github.io/grandmighty/2016/03/starter-booster-relay/

That explains why when I wired this up the car would not click or turn over......

I ended up removing the relay, and installing a new ignition switch and I have not had the issue since. If it does it again I will try again and wire up the relay as you have shown.

OK I am getting to the bottom of this random no start issue.

I think the battery and alternator are fine because after a few tries for turning the key and just hearing a click, the car starts up fine even sitting for a few days, I think the issue is in the stock wiring, see links below:

https://www.norotors.com/index.php?topic=23885.0

https://grandmighty.github.io/grandmighty/2016/03/starter-booster-relay/

So I bypassed by clutch switch, and alarm system hoping this would help but it did not.

My next step is to build this relay to help supply constant voltage to starter solenoid, has anyone done this? Im assuming everyone with a swapped rx7 will have these issues.

So I ordered a hella 40amp relay with 5 pin harness, i followed everything on this grand mighty write up and wire 87 that connects to terminal S on the starter.

I was surprised this to be a small gauge wire, is this only passing voltage signal to the solenoid? and all the voltage is running through the large wire on terminal B? I know 87a is a spare and its a large gauge wire, please confirm if anyone has done this that was my only concern before I install, thanks.

Position 86 to Ground ring terminal on starter bolt
Position 30 to Terminal B on starter 12V
Position 85 gets spliced into the OEM black / red mazda wire that used to go to terminal S (this now acts as the signal wire)
Position 87 is the one I have in question, this wires into terminal B on starter solenoid and I was surprised this was with the smaller gauge wire.

Thanks I will check both.

Battery was purchased brand new in 2022.

When the car did not start, it was weird because it didn't sound like the fuel pump was coming on, and the wiper which was left on was moving very slow. (I'm assuming the wiper being left on, but key off would not draw any power?)

When I went to turn the key the engine did not even turn over, it just clicked. I tried a few times and nothing, I waited about 5 minutes and the car did eventually start but turned over slower than usual.

Hey guys,

So I have been working through issues with my car and thanks to the forum I fixed my fuel pump wiring, got my real main seal issue repaired. I thought I was in the clear, went for a good 40 mile drive, turned the car off for 7 hours, went to start it and barley turned over, battery was low.

I do not think there is a draw anywhere, for some reason I suspect the alternator so I did some testing and want to see if these numbers are low. Engine is ls3 crate with 1,500 miles on it but sat for 3-4 year, new napa battery.

Car off: 12.5V
Car running: 14.6V
Full load (fans, radio, blower) 13.95V

Electronics / Re: gauge install

Thanks for the reply, I bought a A pilllar 3 pod gauge mount as I was planning for AEM digital gauges: coolant temp, oil temp, oil pressure.

I am double thinking even installing these gauges and now thinking about my options.

I was looking at the scan gauge 3:

https://www.scangauge.com/products/productsscangauge-iii/

Now my question is how accurate will this be for coolant and oil temp if using stock sensors form OBD2? assuming I would have to weld new bung sensors for AEM gauges in the best possible locations.

The scan gauge really simplifies the install and gives a more stealth look, has anyone had any experience with these?

My stock mazda coolant gauge works great but from what I have read, by the time you see your to hot its to late, so I have been worried driving the car to hard until this is sorted.

Drivetrain / Re: help with samberg ls3 swap parts
« on: June 05, 2023, 05:11:52 PM »
My mechanic modified my header a bit, the vibration when shifting is better, but these headers are literally mm away if not touching the subframe!

f-body oil pan is also mm away if not touching the mounting kit, are these clarences normal and in line with anyone else running this setup?

Having the V3 swap part kits and newer ronin headers I thought I wouldn't have any issues with these parts. Unless I'm just paranoid with clearance, and the vibration when shifting is somewhere else on the exhaust / car.

So we put a new output seal on the Tremec went around the block and boom blew seal again.....

Called tremec and there is a machining on the rear tail housing that's required or it will blow seals, my transmission was purchased used and didn't have this. Sent photos to Tremec and brand new tail housing at my door within a week, great customer service and no charge.

Installed new tail housing with "half moon machining" and so far no issues, resolved. Did the rear main seal while down there as it was leaking as well.

the mechanic claimed leaking Water pump but I don't see any leaks so I am going to monitor it, what is the best water pump to replace it with, and is it worth trying the gaskets first as new crate engine only has 2,000 miles.

I have the Ronin headers on my samberg swapped fd, they make contact with the engine cradle has anyone else had this issue?

They are beautiful headers!

Thanks,

I ended up picking up this bulkhead up and will install this with bigger wire + relay. It’s getting wired in tomorrow, will report back how it works.

The radium part was nice but costly and took a while to get, don’t think I needed that on street car with future plans of just a different cam.
