Thanks Joel! I must have completely missed this on your site. I totally get the slow down with everything going on in the world. I've been researching possible engine swaps and the GM LFX is gaining in popularity on various platforms. 323hp and 278 ft/lbs is a nice option, especially when the engine only weighs 345lbs; only 79 lbs more than the renesis. I love what you guys are doing over there and you might be able to help save the RX8 by offering solid options to ditch the 13B and go another route.

thanks again, Joel!

I'm already a Ronin customer on my FC, and will likely be doing some Ronin stuff on my FD. Are there any plans to develop any RX8 swap components? Love it or hate it, the RX8 is a great chassis with a not so great engine. There is a company called Keisler Automation making GM LFX swap along with the Camaro rear differential. They produce a really nice CNC'd mounting bracket similar to what you're  doing on the FC diff swap for $1800 and includes the Camaro axles and the rear cover + mount along with the front mount. Just throwing it out there as I think the RX8 would be a more popular choice if the engine wasn't so terrible at making power and being reliable...

Thanks Murray. I am using the stock ECU and it is tuned for SD. It runs OK when its cold, but it rev hangs and stuff until it warms up. Once coolant temp comes up, the car runs much better. Luckily out here in AZ, it doesn't take too long for the coolant to heat up. I'll see how it behaves in the winter time when the temps can get as low as 45F hehe

Loved reading your build! Car looks like it's coming along wonderfully and sounds majestic!

I am curious what materials you used for the rebuild of the HVAC equipment box, i've found an old rebuild thread on an FD but not sure how similar they are.

Hi Slippery! Thank you for the kind words. I used foam from McMaster Carr and I think I used the same thread as that FD one you mentioned; I shamelessly stole the idea from there. I think the FD is similar, but not completely the same. The concept is the same, however.

Great looking dyno and tune if the AFR and RPMs are correct.  Enjoy!

Thanks Kinger! I wish we could have done a 4th gear pull but the tuner was confident it wasn't necessary from a tuning perspective and with the tire rubbing, I opted not to bother with it. They were also nervous regarding the FC tie down hooks not being beefy enough to hold the power, so they wrapped the straps around the lower control arms and I think that was making them nervous as well. All in all, I was pleased with the results and the car drives well although its a bit jerky when cold and at low RPMs. Once it warms up, it's fine.

Thanks Joel! Yea, some sort of paint/wrap or something is in the works. FYI this car is using the Ronin mounts and the 8.8 kit. Everything works great; I just wish I could have used your swap headers haha.

Non turbo and turbo are the same part number N326-11-400B if that helps. You need the S4 pulleys (1986-1988) because in the S5, Mazda moved the spark plug holes slightly, so the pulley timing marks are different between S4 and S5.

Update

I finally got around to getting the car tuned and I am pleased with the outcome. We had some issues with the MAF not reading airflow so we tuned it in speed density instead. Had a right rear tire rub on hard squat so we did the final run in 3rd gear. The tuner said to add about 25-30 in the HP and TQ figures to get it about what it would have made in 4th. Using this formula it made 455HP and 415 ft/lbs of torque at the rear wheels. The car is a rocket and I can't wait to put some miles on it.

FC3S Murray is correct! They are work VS-SS 18x12 and 18x10.5 in the front.

UPDATE! I actually drove the car on Saturday!!! I was so happy to have the car moving under its own V8 power for the first time! It still needs some work, but it starts up, runs reasonably well and drives. Sort of.

Hey guys, are the O rings you supply in the kit made from EPDM rubber? I found some O rings on McMaster's site, but I'm unsure what to get. Are the bridge O rings 9mm X 2mm? thanks!

A good question. It ended up being a giant PITA. The project was dragging on and on with having to literally mod and fabricate every part that went on it. That, while fun and challenging, was only extending the completion date even further. I was wanting to finish it sooner than later and I was still running into problems mounting pedals and master cylinders. Once I abandoned the Evo hardware and went back to stock, I had the entire brake system done in a weekend. Perhaps in the future I'll revisit them, maybe on my FD.
