Title: Ben's 2JZ-FC Build
Post by: bwrx7 on May 03, 2017, 09:45:41 AM
Hi there! My name is Ben...I'm 18 years old and am taking on quite a big and lengthy (lol) project currently and want to share it with you all!

A few months ago I bought a 1990 FC3S...and about a month ago I came into possession of a 2JZ-GTE non VVTi out of a JZX147 Aristo. I picked up the motor off a friend for a sweet $500! But....the catch? The motor was in a tub on the floor of his garage and didn't come with a turbo or manifold (which is good anyways)

So after ordering a whole rebuild kit, it's in the final stages of completion. Now it's just time to source a trans and an HX35  :D

Lets get on with the car it will be going in!

This was the day I picked it up. It hasn't  changed much from this pic, but it's definitely taken some abuse hahaha. It's cocaine white that was painted on with a roller lmao
The motor was supposedly rebuilt and the wiring defintly shows it. Someone went Edward Scissorhands under the dash. Half the electronics work. Suspension is a nightmare too, cut springs ftw!  :banghead:

Anyways, after driving it around for 2 or so months I found the rotary to be dreadfully slow...I owned a wrx before so this was a few steps down in the thrill factor. The car brings alot of attention, mainly for the Redsuns reference, shoots some flames and is obnoxiously loud for a stock port...Plus it has a hotboi bodykit. It's some BN Sports rep. I wanted to build the rotary until the 2JZ fell into my lap. I still think rotaries are sweet but they're exactly the same principle as the YZ125 I had...excessive hours and excessive heat means rebuild time  :(

So after many hours of reading threads and watching youtube videos and making estimates I decided to just say fuck it and do something really awesome before I graduate... Something that I could make memories from with all my friends. So here it is..It's gonna be quite a lengthy thread and I'll also be recording most of it and uploading to youtube.

Stick around guys and thanks for reading! Anyone with tips for the build or some heads up let me know haha  8)

Just playing around with http://3dtuning.stuner.net/ (http://3dtuning.stuner.net/) and came up with this! Definitely project goals...too bad the motor will never sit that low  :'(

Well...it's really both good news and bad news. Last weekend I'm quite sure I killed the ol' 13B. Was getting on it on this back road and revved' it out to ~7k...shifted into 2nd and got it up to about 4k and  :popcorn: Made it's two more compression cycles and bucked again, put it into 3rd gear... "waaahhhh..burrrr..waaahhhh..burrrr". It died and the idiot panel lit up, I downshifted to 2nd and dropped the clutch. It rolled over and ran for maybe 3 seconds. Shoved it in first and did the same...

It was really a shame :( I kinda enjoy the braps. Ahh one day I'll own a weekend rotary cruiser. Sure as hell wont be an FC though  :yay:

Don't be intimidated. This is my first swap as well. Lots of research and take your time to do it right the first time.

Little Update...

Exams this week, so probably wont have any progress. Trying to borrow an engine hoist from a friend for this weekend so maybe I'll have the 13B out  ::)

Well...I've been lacking A LOT on this thread.

Updates as of Mid June
Motor has been pulled and I'm waiting on parts and trying to find an oil pan and CD009 Trans...
Here's a few pics of the motor pull... yes it was a struggle  :yay:

[attachimg=1]
[attachimg=2]
[attachimg=3]
[attachimg=5]
[attachimg=4]

Anyways, I honestly don't know how this engine was still alive when I bought it... The fifth and six ports were completely clogged with carbon..
[attachimg=6]

Oh and here's some apex seal :) there was a lot more in the catch pan
[attachimg=7]

Anyways, enough of the 13B. They're gross anyways  :P

Holy crap, somebody didn't adhere to the "Redline your rotary daily" rule.   That's a lotta carbon!

Sorry for the infrequent updates...still trying to gather parts as well as getting the motor into the shop. After having the engine looked over by a buddy he recommended to get all new bearings and rings. So I'm just gonna take it to a shop because I really don't have all the tools.

Also, I started a YouTube channel just to document the whole swap. So if you wanna check it out and follow the build, subscribe! :D
