Title: SOLD 1993 R1 Ls1/T56 <75k mi *$15.5k obo
Post by: TheOwl on September 20, 2016, 09:28:51 PM
Due to unforeseen circumstances i am forced to sell my rx7. I hope to find her a new home through the forum and see her in good hands. I purchased this car from TheProphet36 in January of 2014 with 71k on the clock, and it is currently at 74k. I believe the engine has roughly 400 less miles on it than the chassis. The car was previously built by Joel (Intrnlstorm) and has been meticulously maintained and garage ever since. The car does has two small leaks, power steering from the rack and a very small oil leak from the rear main seal (drop or two at most after parked) was told nothing to worry about, but I want to be as honest as possible.  The diff makes some mild clicking around very tight low speed corners being a clutch type 1.5 way. Otherwise it has micro-polished gears and runs quiet. I did add some Amsoil Slip Lock additive with fluid swap after break-in and it clicks a little less since then. Aside from the mentioned issues the car has always run perfectly, and could definitely be a daily if someone were to choose that route. The car is located in NH.

There was some touch up body work done prior to the vinyl wrap and will need a fresh coat of paint once removed. The paint itself is black and i believe it to be mostly original (New rear bumper at one point). The 3m Matte Grey Aluminum vinyl was professionally installed, looks GREAT and has had the jambs done as well. The car looks amazing and drives even better... it pains me to let her go.

Fortunately I work part time for a 3m certified wrap specialist and was able to do it for much less than the usual cost. I must say the lines on this car were by far the most difficult I've experienced. Lately a job like this fetches around $4,500 or more.

beautiful color on the wrap! Were you able to use one solid piece of vinyl for the quarter panel to roof or are there seams, if so where? Thanks

Thank You! There are a few very well placed seams, roughly at the top and bottom behind the side windows. They flow well with the car and can be spotted in a few pics i posted if you look very closely. there is also a seam at the top of the hatch that is also very clean and almost factory looking. I used knifeless finish line tape for all of the seams to ensure a factory look. Ill try and post pics.

Doesn't peel easily at all after installed, trust me, rear bumper took a few attempts at using a single piece. Removal is no picnic.

Definitely tempted, as far as quality of life items, just want to check on a few things as I'm a bit of a RX7 swap noob.

AC is listed as not installed but it looks like most of the parts are there. Is this a install and plumb issue, or are there fabrication and space making to do.

2002 wiring harness, are there any major items non functional? I'm guessing no cruise control and/or ABS? How is the top gear, what sort of RPM at 75 mph?

How would you say the suspension is, Pittsburgh roads are pretty shitty at times.

As a now OBDII car, does the exhaust have cats, would be looking to register in PA, so emissions are something I have to worry about. Also, any CEL's or warning lights that would make inspection difficult.

It's a fucking great looking car, and that wrap is  :o

Kind of confused what the PREVIOUS previous owner (360spinner) is talking about with the accident/overspray. Any insight?

I ran a Carfax. Car was issued a Salvage/Rebuilt title (in IL) in 1995 with less than 5k miles on the car. Then issued another rebuilt title in Iowa. Then it was sold out of state to Indiana and somehow became a “clean title” again.  Which seems odd. I guess you could say that the car is ok, since it seems to have made it to 70k+ miles since then.  Best to look at the car in person and check it out thoroughly if you’re interested.

Yep, that's what it looks like to me.  I dunno if the seller knows this or not.  I'd hope if he did he wouldn't advertise it as a clean title car.

I want to sincerely apologize to anyone and everyone who has shown any interest in the car. The previous salvage/rebuilt title was unknown to me and is upsetting to say the least. The previous owner (spinner360) had informed me on a potential previous accident, but also harassed me to sell him the car in the process so all claims were dismissed. I had purchased the car locally, it looked extremely clean and it held a clean title when I made the purchase and so I had no reason to believe otherwise. Again, I am truly sorry for the misleading information as it was never my intention.

I think the worst thing about salvage titles is they don't indicate the reason it was salvaged. Could just be theft recovery..... or really bad accident, no way to tell.  Might be worth taking to a shop and have them thoroughly inspect for signs of repair.  At the end of the day, if it was an accident and it was repaired properly, then it should be fine IMO.  Just be open with possible buyers, get documented inspection and I think it should be okay.

The intent was a simple nickname I have had for years. I am the only owner of this car with that name, though I will admit there is another user here with a similar screen name... Not sure why I have to explain myself to a complete stranger who is making assumptions. I made a mistake assuming the clean title meant a clean title, simple as that.

Given that the car at one point was issued a salvaged title in 1995 and was apparently washed the same year I would like to lower the price and allow any potential buyer to make their decision on how they would like to go about this information. That being said the car was titled, registered, and inspected every year since 1995 in four different states. The car has never given me any trouble and as far as any potential damage, I have had the car thoroughly inspected on a lift with no signs of any damage whatsoever. I also welcome any potential buyer to give their own inspection. Again, I apologize for the unintentional misleading information. The new price with all extras included is $15,500/OBO or $15,000 minus the extras and stock tail lights installed. All questions and critisisms are welcome.

Agreed, this is an excellent price.   Half of the swaps running around have salvage titles.

Questions, questions. Why does this not sell?

I keep looking at this. I drive a salvage '08 350Z as my warm weather daily. Salvage is fine. I don't do my own wrenching so I'm a little less tuned in to the subtleties of fixing the two leaks mentioned on the first page and I assume a rear main seal's a pull-the-engine fix. I also am unaware of parts availability for a '93. Parts issues scare me but maybe parts are more accessible than I fear.

And I'm 66 and I like my comforts, and I drive way more miles than most folks, so lack of cruise and AC would be show stoppers, but I assume they can be installed.

I'm also concerned about how little the car's been driven. I bought my Z three or four months ago and have put 11,000 +/- miles on it so far. So this RX7, from my perspective, is  unused and that feel's like a warning sign. But there may be good reason for very small usage.

The car is lovely, and the price, obviously, is in the zone.

I have no desire to buy a car and park it. If it cannot daily, I'm uninterested. My question is - is this a daily?

I'm in NH. If it passes muster on the questions I have mentioned above, (and I'd love to hear anyone with answers), and if my own long term trusted shop in Concord NH can look it over and check that body / alignment and general condition are good, then I'm seriously interested.

I should add that I would be getting my garage to do the air and cruise. I was unclear on that. I just want to be sure the car can be fitted out with ac and cruise.

These cars don’t sell for under 20k with a clean swap and ac. Fact is, price is good.

Agreed, or I would not be interested. I figure ac and cruise would be at my cost - not the seller's.

Did I sound unreasonably fussy? I'm not. Cars are sold as is and of course it is for me to take on at my cost - the seals, the AC, the cruise, as long as my mechanics don't say the car has hidden damage.

Perhaps I have violated some unwritten rule in how to express interest in a car, but I see no response in messages, or in email. Maybe the owner has been busy. I just want to be sure I'm not off base somehow.

As of right now the car is still for sale. I was away for the weekend and apologize for the late responses. All PM's have been replied to. I hope to find her a good home before I'm forced to use CL. Thanks
