Well, the time has come to sell my baby. After much thought I've decided to take up some new projects and this one will be taking up my garage space.
First off, this car is no project, it's 100% complete in every way. I've taken it on road trips, daily driven it, and taken it to the twistys, I never have any problems. I even sit in 100 degree traffic for 2 hours in the Hampton Roads Tunnel Traffic with the A/C on somewhat regularly and it never even thinks about running hot. There's nothing you'll need to do to get her road worthy, but please give her a good home!

Lol I'm out of it. I'll keep it in mind!

Man, would love to work out a trade with you. I'm in Virginia Beach. But if you've already got another project... http://www.norotors.com/index.php?topic=23891.0 (http://www.norotors.com/index.php?topic=23891.0)
Nice looking car. Sounds like a blast. Good luck.
-
As someone in the middle of a build similar to this, I probably should have just bought this car. To reproduce this car from ground up its probably lots more than 34k.
-
Would you happen to have any videos of your car running? What octane is it tuned for and how's fuel economy?
-

I'm not home this evening until very late due to work, but I'll get a video for you tomorrow, I'll do a little startup, and walk around. It's tuned for 93 premium as that's what's available in the area and I usually average around 24-25mpg combined.
If I'm driving conservatively for road trips I've gotten 32mpg over 370mile trip. But usually 27-28 is more realistic because I like to enjoy the drive and usually keep it at about 80-85mph. Around town with no AC I get about 20mpg. With AC in stop and go traffic as low as 15.
Probably a little more elaborate than you needed but just trying to be thorough.
-
how's fuel economy?
Definitely not a question that's asked on here much. Lol. I find it very hard to get fuel economy numbers mainly cause my right foot has a weird twitch...
-
Haha, I have the same twitch!! That's probably why the numbers have such a distance between them. I only know because I used this gas cubby app to track oil and fuel and maintenance... pretty cool app when I had my old phone.
To be honest, the smiles per gallon are what swapped 7's are all about IMHO ;)

That's pretty damn good mileage. I'm lucky if I can get 14 with mine, probably due to the cam. Most tanks are in the 13mpg range. :drive:
Very nice car, by the way.
If this had been here before I bought mine I'd be very interested.

How's the Evo X seat fit in there? Any rubbing or annoyance for DD?
-
The seats are OEM seats out of an Evo 10 so I'm not sure what you mean by DD annoyance, I think they're very comfortable. They recline, and slide forward and back with no issues on the RX-7 rails. As far as rubbing, they are VERY close to rubbing, but dont. On the passenger side I can slide 2 stacked credit cards between the gap without touching and there is no rubbing at all. On the drivers side you can only slide a few sheets of paper between the bolster and the door. The center of seat is 1/4 off from center of steering wheel. It's not noticeable when driving. There are no rubbing, squeaking, creaking issues.
Also the seats are about 1/2 lower than the OEM seats which is great for a little extra helmet room.
I'm 5'6 and sit comfortably in the car, and my friend is 6'3 280ish and he sits comfortably as well. There's plenty of leg room on the drivers side with the seat slid all the way back.

What are the options on this car for a larger fuel pump utilizing the existing tank and fuel lines?
If I were to purchase I would put a Procharger on it is why I ask.
Has the car ever had paint or bodywork? I see there's holes in the trunklid, what are those from?
Thanks!
-
Also are you near Norfolk for flights?

I'm not sure what exactly is needed for setting up the fuel system for a procharger specifically, but I do know it has been done on LS swapped FD's before. I've seen a few around. Some of them were on this site. It currently has a MKIV Twin Turbo Supra Fuel pump in place of the factory unit. That may be enough fuel delivery already, but I'm not sure. The aftermarket scene for these cars has an immense following, so I'm 100% sure what you wanna do is not a path nobody has gone down before.
The car originally had the OEM rear spoiler and it has been removed, I never filled the holes because I planned on CF rear hatch in the future.
I believe there has been body work on the car over the years, the car has had multiple owners and I believe that the hood has been resprayed and blended with the front fenders. Sometimes you can kinda see a difference in the shading with the right light/angles. Or maybe a previous owner had a CF hood for quite a few years and switched back, leaving the fading in the paint not exactly equal. According to the AutoCheck report I ran, I am the 7th owner. The car looks pretty good from 5+ feet away, but it is a 20+ year old car and if I was gonna keep it, I would have it resprayed eventually, or maybe vinyl wrapped. If you want show quality, it is not that. It's always parked in a garage, but it doesn't live there, I enjoy the car regularly, not just on meets/show days.
As far as flights you can fly into Norfolk or into Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport. I'm closer to Newport News, but I'm still only 25 minutes away from Norfolk. Honestly get whichever flight is cheapest and I'd be glad to pick you up if you desire.
However, I'm in the Navy and will be unavailable for a couple weeks. I cannot give dates, as that's not practicing good operational security, but if you would like to PM me your Cellphone number I can call/text you and let you know when I'm back and we can try and set up a date for you to fly and test drive it. Sorry for the delay. If I lose a sale because I'm unavailable, so be it, gotta do what you gotta do.

get the Vin from op. then run a carfax or simply type vin check for free in Google. works decent

Gotcha. I was just checking to see if the seller had the info, since I didn't notice the VIN posted and he had said he already ran an AutoCheck on it.
-
HEY!
Sorry for the late reply, I haven't been home for a little while due to operational commitments and still will be busy over the next few weeks. I do however have some info from a previous owner I thought I'd pass on. Apparently the front bumper and hood are not resprayed, but instead were ordered from Japan and they are not Chaste White. The difference in color is very minimal and that's why I said I could only barely tell at the right angles, but they are not exactly the same. Apparently it's some kind of Pearl White and it's slightly brighter than the rest of the car. He referenced the hood and the front bumper and this is exactly what information he passed on to me a couple days ago.
"PO bought them from Japan. They showed up a different white then CW. Wasn't bodywork or paint. He said shipping was relatively cheap from Japan so he picked them up not knowing the color wasn't CW like all white FD's in the states."
As for the AutoCheck report, I'd be glad to forward the .pdf copy of the report to anyone who's seriously interested in the car. Send me a PM and we'll exchange e-mails so I can get you that information!

Have a quick question and you seem to be nice enough to answer lol how's the seat position with the seats in the car? I'm 6'2
-

Hey! The seats should fit you just fine, my friend is 6'4 265 and he rides with me pretty often, The seats sit just as low as stock ones so height is not an issue. The car however was made in the 90's, so legroom isn't amazing on the passenger side, probably because I have that footwell brace or whatever it's called on that side. Driver side is fine for him with the seat fully back. He said he wouldn't wanna go on a road trip, but trips of an hour or so he wouldn't mind.

Has it had significant body work done? The front driver fender and the left headlight cover look a different shade of white. It also looks like the whole fender may have been replaced and you can see line at the bottom of the door jamb when the driver door is open. Is that accurate?

Question for some of the guys out there that have these swapped cars. I have a buyer lined up, but he's worried about emissions in his specific county in VA. I'm registered in FL so I know nothing of these issues, how are people getting these cars registered and emissions/smog tested. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Would really like to close a sale but we have to find a solution to this first.
-
Has he contacted local emissions place to see if he has to have emissions? In IL, anything pre 1995 doesn't. And some counties don't require it. I have my truck registered at my parents place because their county doesn't require emissions. If they do require it, is it just a snif test? If so, I think that's pretty easy to beat.
-
Just sell the car to me.
Here in california, a lot of the car scene guys i know have to pay an unscrupulous smog guy to give them papers that say their cars "pass." If a car is being registered from another state to california, a dmv official or an authorized third party has to look over the car and verify the vin.

He called them this morning, and the guy said that the emissions components that came on the car must be ON the car to pass emissions. It's a 1994 RX-7. They basically told him, they don't care if it has cats, or is the E-rod crate motor that's 50 state smog compliant. If it's a swapped motor, and the original emissions equipment is no longer on the car. It fails and will always fail. Which I believe he WAS told that, but there's literally tons of these swaps around so we're just trying to find a solution to this problem or determine if it REALLY is one.

FL required me to do the same thing when I bought the car. Had to have the VIN verified by a dmv official, police officer, or Mazda dealership. That was the only thing I had to do. The car is going to a good home with this guy hopefully, so I'd like to help him out with fixing the issue and complete the sale, but it will be up for sale again if we can't find out a way around this for him. I appreciate your interest, I'll keep you posted.
-
maybe start a new thread asking if there are any VA swaps that have passed and how they did it.
-
I'm in Texas, not worried about emissions issues and want this car. If it comes up for sale please let me know, it'll look great in the garage next to my 1000whp 300Zx TT also white. Thanks!
-
I'm in VA and currently live in a county that does not require emissions testing. I lived in norethen VA counties for over 15 years that do require bi-annual emissions/sniffer testing and depending on who you take it to, they can fail you for visual inspection. That is NOT the issue because a lot of the guys are lazy and don't check for this as long as the sniffer test passes. If you are not running cats you have no way of passing legally. A lot of guys have two different exhaust setups with simple v-bands (one for driving and one they bolt up every two years for the test). Hope this helps.
