Title: E-Fan Gremlins
Post by: Snaps on March 01, 2015, 10:40:57 PM
So my E-fan was working prior to me pulling my motor and relocating my battery as well as some other mods. Now of course its not. I hadn't touched any of the fans wiring during this ordeal but as I was testing all my components I found it to be inop. Its currently connected to a relay and toggle switch, I have tested for current and continuity both are good. The only way I can get it to turn on is if I directly hook the positive and negative wires to the same battery. It does not operate from any ground on the chassis nor motor. WTF? Like I said I'm getting my 12v at the power wire to the fan and my chassis grounds are clean and free of paint but it just doesn't work that way. I could just run a wire all the way to the batteries ground and be done with it however I would like to know why it was working before but not now. Thx

Break in the circuit....   Either wires, switch or relay.

Already tested the relay and wires.

There is no magic here.

If you connect a wire from the battery to the fan positive, and leave the fan grounded to chassis, does it turn on?

Yes:  Power feed issue.   Check your power wiring and relay.
No:   Your ground is bad.   Either your ground feed from battery to chassis is insufficient (does the car start and run?) or the ground for the fan has an issue.

Did you do what I told you?    If you moved the battery you definitely touched a ground.    Speaking as a guy who went to college for electrical engineering and has built/wired 20+ RX7 swaps, go do what I told you to do and figure out what went wrong.   We can't troubleshoot your car with psychic powers, you have to do some leg work here.
