I'm going to build/rebuild/mod my trail bike, and document it in this thread.
First, the wheels. The front is a 26" Sun Rims Single Track, disc brake only, Shimano XT hub/skewers, Specialized Enduro 26"x2" tire. Close tolerance titanium bolts on the discs. Avid mechanical front disc brakes.

The rear is a 24" Atomic Labs, disc brake only, Shimano Deore hub and gear cluster, XT skewer, IRC Kujo DH pinch-flat resistant 24"x2.35" tire. Hayes mechanical disc.

HERE WE GO AGAIN :banghead:

Cool. I build all my own bikes, too. I have a couple of mild mountain/trail bikes I built for the wife and I. Nothing fancy, hers is a 8x3 hard tail, mine is a 9x1 full suspension. Rim brakes on hers, discs on mine. Mostly built out of cast-off stuff on eBay, I can't afford to build a bike with new shiny shit, bike parts cost almost as much as car parts!
Look forward to seeing what insanity you bring here.

Yeah me too, except the wheels I had custom made.
-
do you have a job
-
No but I have some phone interviews lined up thanks to Mike.. And I'm using mostly stuff I already own. Maybe a new part here or there.

you realize you can't run any hydraulic fittings with a mechanical disc setup....
I enjoy passing by the $2k+ bikes some people ride at the local trails with my cobbled together early 90s steel frame bike with a big dual crown fork stuffed under it. screw geometry!
-
I have a Marzocchi Bomber I traded some kid for a regular threaded headset style rigid steel fork because, I shit you not, it was pink. It's an 80mm stroke air/oil spring with the magnesium unibody and titanium nitrided stanchion tubes.

Hah, that's not far off from what I do. I have an OLD K2 aluminum suspension frame with an older Manitou big travel front (model eludes me). It's not fancy, but I have whooped on several people with bikes that cost them thousands, vs. my 300 or so dollar investment (my wheels/deraileurs cost more than the rest of the bike, haha).

One mod I would do to almost any bike, is the Oury grips with the aluminum locking collars.
-
i don't have oury, (never heard of them) but i do have some cheap locking clamp grips and I agree, I'll never ride without locking grips again.
especially in rain.
finally found a recent pic.
