I wanted to wait till I got some major accomplishments done before I started a thread. I think this will keep me motivated with all the whip cracking and hunger for bacon. Ive had the car for a long time and havent done much but looked at it every time I came home from work. Lots of overtime. Replaced a dead motor in the RX8 cause they wouldnt warranty it due to "I race my car (autocross religiously)..." That took a nice piece chomp out of my bank account. The Dad and his projects in the garage. Weather is warming up and its like sort of not raining in Seattle so I can start going at it.
Plans are getting this car to our new road course and weekend warrior. Turbo motor and road course going to make this a difficult car to drive but not out to win events, just have a blast.
My fabrication abilities are pretty decent but the turbo knowledge end of this is being helped by my dad. He has many many years with GNs. He has a nice 'stock' twin turbo T-type, maybe some of the older buick guys have seen it over on turbobuicks. Fun car put together with 'crap' people threw away 15 years ago. That car is still for sale, hes moved his focus into a lake house.
So on to some :bacon: Who reads anyways...
This is when I picked up the car and brought it home.
I told my friend this is the only time he'll get to drive my car...off the trailer.
This has been the only time its been washed in over a year. High school softball team doing a brest cancer fund raiser. Donated a $20 spot. The dad helping out was washing the window just starring into the car. "Hey I think theres something wrong with your car, theres no steering wheel!?" "Other side sir..." "Oh look at that!" Made my day.

Home at last.
Quick degressing but still dirty as hell. Lot of whats in here has been removed.
This is how it ended up tonight. Im pretty much taking pictures and putting every nut and bolt into plastic bags. All the foam wrapping around the wiring is flaking off and I had to put on a dust mask. Who knows what kind of japanese swine flu it might have...
Thats it for now. Motor is sitting in a garbage bag in the garage and theres nothing exciting there. Still trying to figure out what rods and pistons to buy. AFR heads or port my stock heads, I could work a few weekends for AFR heads. Looking out for a good deal on an LS6 intake manifold and a 8.8 IRS. Cobra guys think they are worth their weight in gold. It will be coming along very slow.
Im lucky enough to have a cool dad to guide me through my turbo build, and heres some pictures of his setup on his turbo regal. :bacon: :bacon: :bacon:

Glad to see this project underway! Let me know whenever you need some help.
-
Ill have some cold beer ready when I could use a hand or theres a good sushi place down the street. This weekends plans are to have it fully stripped and get the KAAZ dif out to inspect and sell. Debating if I want to let go of the jdm interior; 2+2 seats, rear belts and plastic panels. Not even sure what they are worth.
-
Post some :bacon: later.
It's pretty much fully gutted minus fuel lines, brake lines and windshield wiper motor left. And foam from head liner and carpet. Was planning on having a friend come over so we could simple green everything, but I got sick.
Samberg kit hopefully be here shortly. Than I can start my turbo plumbing. Now truck manifolds or :bacon: factor and more time making a tubular manifold. Far as turbo goes, dad has a 76mm precision that needs to be sent back for a rebuild.
Build starting off like train.
-
Here are some pictures.
Everything is out now... Dry ice best at removing sound deading? Need to scrub off the adhesive, but got sick.
The mess of interior, most of which is not going back into the car. I wanted to sell the 2+2 seats but I dont think anyone would want them since they have some rips just outside the stitching.
I found this between the carpet and the fuse box drivers side. Score I guess.
I was worried when I was pulling this out. Found a nice wiring diagram on here for where each connector goes :)
The dog; had to come say hello/thought he was going for a ride.
Removing carpet is like digging for treasure. Never know what kind of loot you'll come up with. Only 1 yen :(

What engine is that? I have never seen anything like it!
-
What engine is that? I have never seen anything like it!
The twin turbo motor? 3.8 buick V6. My dads build threads are floating around turbobuicks.com.
-
Bitchin! :bacon:
-
Taking a nap on the couch and the dogs start going ape shit. Barking and pawing at me, "wake up! intruder! intruder!". Nope, just FedEx.
Now time to clean the garage again...and push the car inside so I can drop install new subframe, remove suspension parts for new bushings and ... more cleaning.
-
looks good man, keep at it
those turbo buick guys are crazy, haha
-
I spy with my little eye... a 8.8 cradle! :)
-
Yes sir. Now to get my hands on a 8.8. Pick one up from Justin or if someone has a screaming deal :D
-
Get that stuff powder coated so it doesn't rust man, it'd be a shame to see it rust 8)
-
It will get a coat of primer to prevent rust. Won't get proper paint till the whole car gets painted. :)
-
Not much of an update. Waiting on some parts and a GN to finish so the FD can go in the garage.

Another lame update. All my powerflex bushings and atomic rex pillow balls came in the mail today. Ill post a picture but just bushings in boxes.
I should have some actually worth wild updates very soon. Waiting on the DSS pro axles and can get the whole rearend finished up. Just need to try and sell the old rearend on the club. It has a Kaaz dif so might get a buyer quickly.
-
Well finally had a chance to push the car into the garage. Been a long time since this car has been inside. For a car from 1992 and japan all the suspension bolts came loose without any problems...with help from an impact gun.
Pulled the car in with a come along. Its a decent incline from driveway to garage. Its funny, people need help I will come and help. When I need help, no ones around.
So this is where the rear suspension was...no rust :yay: Looks cleaner then my RX8 looks up there.

Ive never taken an FD a part so I dont know every bolt.
Yes its a bit messy on work benches. Because, race car garage...Those are Cusco coilovers if anyones wondering.
Tomorrows plan is to remove suspension parts to get cleaned up/install bushings during the week. Lots of simple green/wire wheel and brushing everything clean as well. Excited!
-
You have so much work ahead of you. :)
Keep it up.
-
haha I agree.
-
Nice lense! It looks like you have a nice small garage setup. Looking forward to see how this thing turns out.
-
Thanks. Garage space is tight for sure. I have a long road ahead of me but most of the time was buying parts and waiting for them. Mainly my bushings and atomic rex pillow balls. Juans the man though :)
Help of turbofabricator dad standing around going; *cough*iddoitthisway*cough*; helping with some out of the box experience I frankly do not have. More father/son time +1 :bacon:
I keep dreading the nightmare of body/engine wiring harness. That's next while I wait for more parts to come.
-
Whatcha know about pictures? :bacon: :bacon: :bacon: Every day is something new and fun. Get more excited as the days go on and more and more work happens.
Turbo dad thought I should need a turbo oil feed line.
Instead of hacking the brackets off, quick drill job! cleaned up some surface rust with paint.
FU hubs! Well the passenger side (LEFT) came off easy ease. Driver side wasnt so friendly; electric impact wasnt working so went air.
Bunch of suspension parts in the pile.
Wanted to make sure I kept right and left side seperated for install. I know you can visually look at what goes where. I wanted to stamp L and R.
Here is everything piled in front of the car. I would have ran off and pressure washed everything but I have a joint bday party to attend, hooray being 27! Thats tomorrows task. Everything must be clean, dont want to be like that rx7lee guy.
Last, a question; I dont know the difference between 99 spec front brakes and non. Wasnt much info included when I picked up the car.
The FD3S dif does have a KAAZ unit installed as I was told. I need to get rid of it and axles. If anyone is interested send me a PM. I figure ill let the whole unit go as one. Diff/Axles all together. I will remove the rear cover and inspect everything before I actually sell it. Maybe tomorrows task as well. :yay:
Tomorrow; scrub a dub, watch me in the tub.

-
Thanks :) compliments from some of you guys who've done great builds keep my motivation booming.

So I got to cleaning all my parts. Lots of Castrol Super Clean and $10 at the car wash. I didnt take a picture of all the parts laying on the ground because I wanted to be in and out of the place before someone came out to yell at me. I need to now bead blast everything and scrub brush what I didnt pressure wash away.
Edit; the club told me this is an oem LSD.

Edit; Guess I got hit with a switcharoo when I got the car. Bummer.
Next few days I will be getting to a shop where turbo dad's press is being held at. As youve noticed, theres zero room in the garage :'( I have an idea of dumping everything off at the powder coater to rock like; COPPER. Idk yet.
-
You work at Boeing? I have a few years of experience drilling out 737 skins.
Nice progress! Can't wait to see the powder coat!
-
Yes sir.
-
Updates! So my bushing adventure has been very slow. I need to go get a bushing press kit cause all the sockets I have are either to big or to small. So they been on hold. Mainly because I been working so much havent had time to visit the shop.
Something else came today though. I had to drive to my friends business to pick it up though.

Drool!

SFI bellhousing, eh?

*Trips over something instead*

:yay:
Want to lessen the risk of a flywheel coming through the floor.
Something else is a wilwood pedal box to address the rhd master cyl issue.
-
Smart. But what I find most inspiring is your neatness and organization, it sets a good example.
-
Oooooh that's hot! :)
-
Well bummed right now because I had Justin make me some engine mounts. They are lost in the mail :( USPS said they were delievered on the 6th but nothing has came for me. So today I was in the garage simple green scrubbing the interior of the car. I didnt make it that far because I changed a pandora station and looked at my pile of control arms.
Wishing I could superman push the bushings out with my finger; Friday im going back up to the shop. I didnt like the exterior of the arms. Flipped on the flap wheel and started to eliminate a stress riser. Chances of a stress crack happening is like winning the lotto, but its common practice daily for me at work. It was better then scrubbing with simple green.
Anyways, no ones ever going to know I did this. Its just a little free mod for myself :yay:

Hopefully Ill get a chance to bead blast everything while im pressing my last few bushings out. I know I wanted to powdercoat everything. Im just going to spray paint them. They are going to get beat on by rocks and god knows what else. Dont want to cry when I notice chipped coating.
Still a lot of work to do but I am working 12hrs a day so I can keep the funds up to finish. Im sure things will start speeding up when the motor is sitting in the car :yay:
-
I'm assuming you realize that powdercoat can stand up to a hell of a lot more abuse than spray paint? It would provide a small amount of protection to the arms themselves. IMO it has a functional justification.
-
Youre prob right and its still an option. Need to find the ripped ball joint boots to slip back over so they wouldnt coat over the b-j.
-
I say polish up that aluminum and leave that as the finished product.
-
You could use one of the textured powders like silver vein. Optionally you could then put another color over that.
-
After I went for a nice trip in a B17 I came back and bought some dry ice. Im leaving the firewall because it will be covered up by the dash. There are a few spots I need to go back and apply heat since freezing them even for 30 mins didnt do anything. Wire wheel rest and acetone. Seam sealer is next to remove.

So today I got around to finishing something I started a long time ago! I dont have time to visit the shop our press is being kept at so I had to use something else. It worked and gave me a work out. Anyways heres the pictures. Friday maybe ill get off early and go bead blast everything and fresh paint this weekend/install bushings!!!
My poor pands press.
This was the last one to get out. Sadly I did have a socket that fit inside just right. Cut a small piece out and knocked it out with a punch.

Now it was time for a cold one....forever alone...
BTW since the 4th of July is coming up. Right at the padding of my thumb you can make out a scar. I almost lost my thumb last year to an explosive. Careful! Matt actually saw me when I sold him my wheels and I was still in a cast.

The scorpion. :D
-
Now I can mate motor to transmission. :)
-
Oooooh, beefy!!
I like the colour choice of your suspension components, is the car going to stay black when all is said and done?
-
Yes to black. Once you go; can't go back right?
I'll update after dinner. Motors/trans in car. Need to bolt the transmission brace in. I spent most of a couple hours playing where turbo will mount and downpipe plumbing. Don't worry I won't be turning my car into a dala horse.
-
Heres a few pictures. Im still trying to figure out where im going to be placing the turbo at. I need to install my steering shaft again because not sure if room is limited on that side due to being RHD. Figure out where I will place an alternator. Need to order my Shine FEED front bumper now so I can start planning where intercooler/radiator setup will be going. Placement of oil cooler and accusump tank. Big step but longer step as I try to figure out the best location for everything to keep it clean and easy to do maintance.
Time to get some v bands and stainless :)
Disclaimer; I know the block is all dirty and vally cover is off. Engine is just in for mockup. Turbo looks like hell but just needs a rebuild; which will be later. Lots of cleaning will be done dont worry. This isnt another rx7lee build or dala horse.
This isnt where the turbo will be placed. Just tossed it in there for a visual.

Why does everyone jam the turbo where the least clearance is? :P
Looks like good progress.
-
Why does everyone jam the turbo where the least clearance is? :P
:P Coooome on! Just threw this in there. It will most likely sit "passenger" side right by crank pulley kinked at a 45 degree. Still deciding how high I will stick it. Got my work cut out for me! Excited!
-
Great progress! I am excited to see this thing driving around Everett. The last couple of days I have been seeing FDs every time I go somewhere.
-
Right now juggling using truck headers or build my own. One nice aspect with a rhd FD is all the room to run the downpipe along the skirt of the block. No starter in the way :)
-
I have always favored putting the inlet towards the bumper. Just seems right to me.
Looks like everyone is using c6 manifolds these days, and there are some for sale in the classifieds.
-
Looking at it today. The "passenger side has a nice big space to route the down pipe through. C6 manifolds will point right in the path. I had a few different ideas. Before anything major waiting on turbo dad to look over my thought process and help improve it.
Try to figure it out myself but having his crazy outside the box thinking and 30 something years of turbo experience helps.
Steering rack is depowered and welded up. Needs grease zerks threaded in and greased up. One thing almost done off the list of infinity.
-
You know, where the turbo sits now, you could just build a gear system and run the turbine off the crank. No exhaust manifolds needed!
-
That's silly. You know you couldn't build boost without a gear system that runs Big Ben under the hood.
Steering rack is all painted and cleaned :) Ill try and remember to take some pictures before it all gets assembled. Turbo dad sat with me for awhile as we discussed turbo stuff. Key points were; best location, making it clean and what could we do for cool points. Result is building my own headers. It will be the first time for me so I'm excited. The rough idea would give enough room to allow even a 3.5 DP to easily pass along block and subframe. Some of the rhd perks are showing :)
Now it's time to order up some more parts. :yay:
-
Been very slow. Lots of working restocking the bank account.
Heres a couple pictures of my steering rack. Added two grease zerks. Are they in the right location, seemed like a good spot for them.
This is where the turbo will be located. It will be moved a tad down and more aft. The compressor outlet will be pointing to the passenger headlight. 4 inch tube as a down pipe mock up. So lots of room between the DP and frame for the passenger hot side to route. Slowly coming.
Heres a 4 inch pipe between subframe and frame. You could give birth between here.
Waiting on my stuff from Verocious and Fbody accessories. Sikky just shipped my shifter too for the T56 Magnum. Excited to see it.
-
Again not to much going on. Been waiting on lots of goodies to come in the mail. These both came today but one will allow me to get some big progress started.
First off;
SIKKY shifter for T56 Magnum for a FD. I saw the blog on MotoIQ so I shot them off an email. Justin over at Sikky is a great guy. Communication was top notch and sent me out of fantastic product! Shame it will be covered up. Its glory will be showboated here in the thread at least.
My shift hole is virgin and the transmission is oh about 3 to 5 degree pointed up. Note; the brace is not installed and will be once I get the rear subframe back installed. Still waiting on a part to weld to the subframe from Samberg. Shifting into 1, 3, 6 not close to touching.
Verocious stuff came as well. We have 2 2.5 Vbands that have male/female machined into them. 4" flex pipe. 3 2.5 UJ bends to feed into the turbo and 1 3.5 UJ bend for downpipe. Tomorrow running to local steel shop pick up some turbo flange plate and solid bar for turbo brace. Fire up the plasma cutter/chop saw/welders and get my ass in gear.
Note cause someone might catch it; fuel cans get moved before any welding ;) Just the placed there for storage cause limited room in the garage.
-
Nice. I'm actually about to get the same transmission set up as you. How much did that shifter set you back?
-
$500 or so and change.
-
My shift hole is virgin
That's good to know ;)

Looks like the shifter sits about an inch forward from the center of the shifter hole? Once the tranny is mounted and level, will it be enough to bring the shifter to center? Good to hear there's no clearance issues with the front of the shifter hole.

Honestly its not going to go back much more then it is. From the looks of the MotoIQ build; its in about the same location. Worked for them and should work for me.
This hot side plumbing should keep me busy for a bit.
Still looking for an LS6 intake/TB :yay:
-
I can't believe I missed this build. I like your photos. What kind of camera/lens?
-
GoPro HD. Canon XTi Rebel kit lens with some UV filter.
-
Nice clean FD to start your project with. Can't wait to see the finished result. Should rip.
Thx for buying the T56 Magnum from NorCal Auto Group (me). I'm putting mine in this weekend..... FINALLY.

Not a real serious update but some stuff. Been waiting on a few key parts and working a lot to keep the cash flowing in and well back out of my wallet :( ATI balancer and Treadstone FMIC are in bound. Improved Racing oil pan suppose to be here Thursday :) I can then get it mounted and bolt my steering rack up to make sure I have room between it and down pipe. Stuff is slowing coming in and morphing into something.
Im still looking for a complete LS6 intake/tb!!! Whose got one for me thats upgraded to a FAST :yay:
I got some solid 8.8 diff bushings from Mike Forte.
Figured I should replace these in my diff while im at it too.
Since I have a pre 94 I needed the "W" brackets for my 8.8 cradle. I noticed one day I didnt have them sent with me. Justin is the most stand up guy ever! He sent them out no problems. Good ol snot mig welds. Son of a trucker isnt going anywhere. I was going to box the back section in but eh, doesnt really need it. Ignore my drippy paint. Everything is going out for powdercoating when I finish all mock up.
Am I rusty with a tig. Had some pretty welds but ground everything down. I know, pics or it didnt happen :(
(http://img824.imageshack.us/img824/8081/mg7617.jpg)
All new bushings, pillow balls, boots and dust covers. I havent reinstalled all my suspension because I was waiting on missing and my fault samberg part. Soon as I change bearing and seal on the 8.8 I can get axles in and everything goes on.
PS; big University of Washington Huskies fan so I like this color combo :)
Radiator came as well. Its 27x19x3 dual pass. I dont have a front bumper so im not sure where my under tray is suppose to be. It might be like an inch to tall :/ Since my aluminum welding is garbage. I might have to cut it and have turbo dad weld it back up.
Thats kind of it for now. Sorry nothing to make you go pow pow pow! Ive been slacking on being super detailed as I go. I will be more into that when I start the carnage of the turbo plumbing.
-
Those suspension parts do look awesome! Go Dawgs! :D
-
What did you do to the suspension pieces to make them look like that? Blast and clearcoat, or did you polish them?
-
Cleaned with wire brush and acetone. Primer/paint/clear rattle canned. Front hubs are new oem and rears are the 38 splined from the pro dss axle kit. Mostly I think it was the rare sunshine and dslr :p
-
I like the pile of suspension pieces. That color looks cool.
-
Rare sunshine? My friends tell me your having 35 straight days of no rain.
-
Rare for me. I'm at work when it's dark and coming home near dusk :yay: Wanted to chop my core support off the car but still feeling the flu bug. :( still trying to score me a good priced ls6 intake. They sell so fast I always miss them on ls1tech.
-
Clean build so far, in for updates
-
Rare sunshine? My friends tell me your having 35 straight days of no rain.
That's about all we get ;)
-
Presents been coming in every day for me this week its been nice :)
ATI balancer.
I had to slot the holes in my cobra cradle due to them not lining up correctly. Carbide bit makes quick work. Sorry no pictures of that. Will when I unbolt the diff this weekend to install the bearings and seals.
Last I said "fuck it". Home late and ran out of time so didnt get to drilling out the spot welds.
I played around with radiator placement in relation to bottom of the swaybar and where the hood comes down on the stops. If I relocate the filler cap I might get this radiator to stand up with a slight angle and clear the ground.
Improved racing stuff will finally all be here tomorrow and Treadstone intercooler next friday. Should be done ordering parts for awhile till I catch a deal on a LS6 intake.
-
More slow updates. I feel super bummed its taking this long! I have to work hard to play hard though. These are pictures from here and there since last post. Im waiting on a good day my friend isnt busy with work so we can rob his bumper off his shell so I can get cracking on mounting radiator and fmic.
Speaking of turbo stuff before I end up dumping pictures. Ive finally set on my plan. Truck manifolds pointed so they direct upwards slightly. They will hook down and into the turbo, though im still fishing ideas on wastegate placement. Might end up just dumping WG to atmo. Due to where I would like to mount this turbo; to give a nice clean downpipe run; I might have to use a scavange pump for the oil return line. One more thing to worry about failing though. Turbo dad just told me one afternoon, "if your going to use a pump might as well rear mount it". That idea has been crossing my mind. Once I get the front bumper its going to be elbows and assholes all over this hot side plumbing.
Now for pictures...
Front suspension finally bolted back on the car. Looks pretty spiffy this color scheme. The wheel wells were cleaned and I plan on 3M rubber coating AFTER everything is done. Might be doing some cutting and or grinding. Rather not make a bigger mess. Thinking ahead.
Steering rack bolted up. Still need to swap my Fbody water pump and ATI balancer. Engine looks mighty ugly.
New axle bearings and seals in the 8.8
(http://imageshack.us/a/img855/1038/mg7736.jpg)
Well I ran into a slight mishap and not sure exactly how this happened. I sealed diff cover and ran all the bolts down with a speed wrench. I doubt there was any more then 5 to 10 lbs of torque annnnnnd 7 of 10 stripped on me. Shit. All threads and holes were clean prior to installing. Who knows what happened. I gave up that night and went to bed. Helicoiled everything and installed studs.
Rear sealed cover with right stuff and slammed my DSS axles in. Filled up the diff with lube and Ford posi additive which smells like a sorority girls pussy.
Rocking out alone in the garage and no one to help. I had to use a creeper to bring the rear subframe into position then muscle some floor jacks under the cradle.
All bolted up :) First time this car has seen suspension in a long time. I forgot to install the coilovers BEFORE I raised the subframe into the car but easy to get those coilovers in tomorrow :)
Thats pretty much it for now. I put my fenders back on temp and ziptied the pile of shit front bumper I have. Theres more fiberglass on this thing.
-
Definitely want to see this come to life. Great job so far, and I love the Huskies + sorority girls references lol.
-
I like the suspension colors you chose, looks good.
-
Installed the rear coilovers tonight and went to install the wheels. Shit. I need open ended lug nuts. Time to hit up discount tire and get some temp ones so I can roll this car around for the time being. Now that this is finally checked off my list I can finally get to the turbo. Feel like such a slack ass taking this long :o
-
The FD has landed. Fuck that only took 7 months. :'( Garage looks like hell but I want dinner so ill do some house keeping tomorrow.

I am diggin it!
-
Nice work!
-
Thanks :) I did forget how low the roof line really is.
I been really looking at buying a JD2 bender recently. Anyone else have a bender and want to give me some personal feed back.
-
A post is worthless without pictures but ill post up tomorrow, DSLR is dead.
I made a quick turbo mount, sleeping on it; not sure if I like it yet. Mucked around with a lot of scrap 2.5" tubing to see how im going to feed passenger side into the turbo. I still need to pick up a vband for the exhaust housing.
The clock has now offically started. Only 2-3 hours a night to do work. Lets see if I can finish this up before Mefarri :yay:
-
Hey......
-
I feel like rx7lee sometimes with how dirty a lot of stuff is :( Soon ill get a hair up my ass and clean stuff, but im in destruction stage so it will all become dirty again anyways...
Heres my practice brace. I will redo this when I get a new stainless turbo flange. This flange was the one from the GN the turbo used to be mated on...before the car fire. My tig welding skills suck pretty hard. Just need to practice more. I will end up having to use a pump cause theres not really enough angle for oil drain back to the pan.

Coming home to new stuff is always nice. Shine Auto FEED bumper :)

How's the fitment?
-
Its not bolted up yet. I need to actually bolt the fenders on. Its just resting on there currently. I do want to throw down a few layers of carbon to beef up some spots.
-
Looking good man, lots of progress! I know that motivating yourself to work after a full day of work with the few hours you have spare is a tall order sometimes, but keep it up!!!
-
Thank Adam. Now update your thread you crumbum! :P
-
My engine has been run up to operating temp, rad and fan work perfectly and the car likes to idle right at 600 RPM. Needs a tune, but that's about it (expected with the cam and such).
Clutch MC is 90% done, just have to make a new pivot point on the bracket. Clutch line and fittings are on the way and once they get here, the car should be able to roll under it's own power.
I'm using all of my time to work on the car so I'm not going to update my thread until it gets too cold to work on it. ;)
-
Forever and a half for updates. Just been busy...work, shower and sleep. Repeat.
I woke up this morning and 1 rotor not firiing on my 8 so I spent a bit dragging ass around town getting plugs and lunch. Good 5 hours got me to here. I started to get hungry and frustrated. This merge is a royal pain in the ass! Soon as I figure it out the hot side will be good and tacked.
Question; my flex. Using those cones work or do I need to run the pipe inside and just put a big ol snotty bead on top of pipe and edge of flex? Says 2.5 but pipe easily flops in, hot dog down a hallway.
-
Does that flex pipe have an interlocking inner liner?
-
Not sure what you mean. Its a vibrant one.
-
You weld to that like 1/4" lip at each end. Don't ever weld to the flex portion. Those just burn right through.
-
Not welded to the flex portion. Theres a lip and a flange inboard of it. Its welded to that; that tack might have spilled over but i have a 25 thou gap to drop rod into. Other wise if I need to slip the tube into it and just cake mig/rod/flow I will. Ive never used a flex so asking people who have.
-
I just flared the tube to fit better.
-
Yea I don't know why your flare come up around the flange portion.
-
Ive been just really busy IRL. Ive scraped a few different ideas and I think I finally like this one. Yes I know I still need to remove the cone on drivers side, that will be tomorrows task. Redo the turbo brace/flange with the stainless one and finally mount radiator/fmic.

Note; those arent wastegates I am using. Was using them for mocking/planning wastegate placement/dump routes.
-
Wait until you drive the car that front bumper for the first at over 100 mph. It is seriously an airplane wing. The car feel like its wheeling. Just ask bigblock quad he has one too.
-
Dearly noted :) Glad to see youve poked into this thread; dont bash my welding to much Justin :yay:
-
Well bummed right now because I had Justin make me some engine mounts. They are lost in the mail :( USPS said they were delievered on the 6th but nothing has came for me. So today I was in the garage simple green scrubbing the interior of the car. I didnt make it that far because I changed a pandora station and looked at my pile of control arms.
I know I'm a little late here but is Justin someone local? I'm located over in Kitsap county and am picking up a buddies 1st gen rx7 next month and I can't seem to find a set of motor mounts for a 5.3 into a 7. Can you pm me the contact info or username for who made the mounts please and thankyou!
-
Jesus holy thread bump for me.
Took a break for awhile. Made some changes and than changed those. Now I'm back in full swing! Not ready to photo dump yet. Soon...
-
less interweb'ing, more fab'ing

Sorry I was to busy collecting F22 parts and going Bob Vila on mock ups.

Nice!
Hey wait a minute lol!

Hey wait a minute lol!
I play with enough aircraft "stuff" at work everyday.
I think I'll go hibernate for another year.

That is some funny shit right there...

Live learn and spend more money is the moto for this build. I always think I shoulda bought a boat instead. Machine shop turned these around in a day. After being milled the crossover vband mismatch was about 3/16. Just sawzal through a weld, did some grinding and reweld.
This is how it looks bolted in the car for an idea. Not the best but you'll have to live with it for awhile.

Beautiful.

Finally mounted welded some alumium plate to my radiator and mounted my fmic off the same bracket. Not going to win any awards but whatever.

That is a big ass intercooler, haha.

That's what she said too. Then she left me and took the ice trays.
It's the bigger treadstone front mount. My aluminum 90s came last night so this weekend between work ill see if I can get them welded on the end tanks. As well putting one on the turbo; outlet is pointing straight down atm. Just waiting on my round to oval hard way transition to show up from spintech before I start to tack my DP together.
Got a real fire under my butt and more hood time on the welder to make more progression steps. Got a deadline to finish all my pipes before I pick up my mini aussie puppy.
-
Pew pew pew goes the bank account for all this oval tubing to make my downpipe/exhaust.
Been pretty much laying under my car all night with a big box full of random 3.5 pieces playing 3rd grade does it fit? Apparently the star block doesn't fit into the triangle. Or I'll make it fit after some wood work and a few F18 hose clamps.
-
Does this run yet...? :P
-
Do pigs fly? Been quite busy with relocating to Seattle and training my mini aussie. I did get my front wheels to show up though. Rears are in route apparently still.

Why only one turbo? Two is so much cooler these days.
-
Love the rim and brake combo
-
Staying single other wise I'll have to start the fabrication over using plywood and 747 fittings.
The TE and Wilwoods 6pot look great. Soon as rears show be the first time cars been off jackstands in like almost 3 years. Shit time flies.
-
You so crazy :D
-
Long as spacevomit doesn't finish his car before me I'll be happy :P
-
I need a set of manifolds just like that...
Very nice man!
-
I need a set of manifolds just like that...Very nice man!
Thanks! Haven't touched the car all month. Working long hours and I just have time to give my dog exercise and attention.
My rear TEs finally came though. Now just waiting to get some tires mounted. Now I can push it out of the garage to get the cage built. Picked up a newer Tacoma too. Should be able to tow the FD around without trying to beg to barrow someone's truck.
