Title: FD upper and lower Ball joints servicing Help Please
Post by: jparker7 on February 26, 2012, 01:31:06 PM
What are you guys doing about these.  You cant replace them and if you want new ones its ridiculously expensive.  Seems like one of you smart guys would of figured this out already and would be supplying rebuilt ones.  My boots are shot on both upper and lower.  Im not sure if replacing the boots and re-greasing is an option or if they are even available.  Everytime I think IM making some progress another $500 item needs replaced.  Its the most retarded design flaw on the FD in my opinion besides the rotory of course.

If it's just the boots, run em.

If the ball joint is loose, you're shit outta luck

the lowers are tight and really just need boots but the uppers feel kinda sloppy but they are pretty bone dry on grease

You can still get new boots from Mazda but theres really no cost effective way of replacing the ball joints on these arms  :( The best alternative is to buy low mileage arms from an importer, like Japan2LA on the RX7club, and run those instead. I'd just replace the boots on your lowers and if the uppers are bad, replace them with a lower mileage set.

FYI: energy suspension makes universal replacement boots so you may be able to find one that works.

They all look like just dust boots and don't actually attach to anything
