85 FB 1uzfe TT build
« on: February 21, 2013, 12:15:45 AM »
I am here from the RCC and RX7club forums, as well as lextreme since a few people have pestered me to post here
the project:
1985 FB
lexus(toyota) 1uzfe dohc v8 from an sc400
twin turbo
electromotive tec3 efi
8.8 rear
mazda T2 trans adapted...for now...
many other mods/improvements, like black interior vs the maroon it had....

here is the RCC thread http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_forum/showthread.php?t=16210
here is the rx7club thread http://www.rx7club.com/v-8-powered-rx-7s-299/my-85-fb-lexus-v8-turbo-build-1009701/

anyway, as i get time i will fill more pics and info in here for the people who cannot or do not want to venture to the other forums

comparison of size vs ls1....this was never going to be easy in the fb....

REspeed steering conversion, with some added mods for the motor mounts for the engine and ground clearance for oil pan, i added a 1x2 tube to the bottom of the Xmember as a strike point to protect the pan

offset bushings for the rack i made to lower it down as far as realistically possible with the REspeed kit

modded shifter housing location to move the entire assembly back 4 inches in the car

adapter for trans and flywheel, it uses the T2 ACT flywheel, clutch and press plate

Badass, I love that motor, but here in the US it doesn't make sense, plus who wants a measly 500whp before shit breaks

obviously you have never built or driven an FB with that much power....its barely making over 5psi right now and its nearly un-drivable, unless you want a tubbed out drag queen you cant stick much on the street with radial tires suitable for spirited cornering. its fun, but any more would be totally pointless and i estimate its only making middle 300s right now, havent gotten it on the dyno yet, ill geti t on there soon enough, i was planning to run the motor around 450+hp but after driving it i can see it would be totally pointless and somewhat dangerous.

that said, its an awesome combo, changing the rear gears this week hopefully to lower highway rpm and with any luck reign in some torque...70mph wheelspin is just silly....

observing my options now, i kind of put the rear of the car together around the 245/50/15 dunlop...BUT now they are all but impossible to get, it is also the maximum tire you can put under the rear, it nearly scrubs the suspension and i already rolled the fender lips  to clear, if i want to jack the car way up in the rear i can put some stupid looking tire on it...but no...

my options arent many, but i am looking into getting a set of toyo r888 in 235/50/15, that will be corner friendly and they are pretty soft, not great for getting caught in the rain, but better than a slick, the 235/60/15 drag radial will hook pretty good, but then the ass is up in the air and they handle like shit, its a trade off, its a street car, i do what i can to make it work good at most things, with the 1uz im dealing with a brutal amount of midrange torque that is just more than my chassis can handle if you get rowdy with the loud pedal.

ill figure something out, its a work in progress...realistically i need to essentially tub it and stick some 295/50/15 under it real nice like, but cant afford that. dont wannt chop up my car either, i like it to turn.

aluminum transmission crossmember

engine mounts, sadly they had to be solid or engine will hit the hood.

customized belt tensioner only have the alternator to drive, uses a short 6rib belt, ZERO belt squeel

first day running

little playing around the saturday after i got rear ended.....helped my mood...

im currently in the tuning and finishing process to prepare for DGRR2013, the damage was mainly my bumper and from 10ft away its not that much of an eyesore so i will probably let it be for the rally and fix it and maybe repaint the whole car once i get back and can take my time and make it right, the paint job survived for 7 years completely scratch free until that ass-wad ran into me...damaged the door jams as well, so i think a repaint is in order to bring it back to where my anal self wants it to be, and in the process i can fix a few small blemishes in the body that we missed the first time.

thats a good overview of the project, if want to know anything specific or see a specific picture of something feel free to ask. if i dont have a pic I can take one, as long as its on the outside of the engine :D
