Well you can 100% count me in on a set.

OK Tony I will put you on the list. Every one helps as all the supplier will give a better price once he knows there is a market. Probably like any supplier with these cars. I imagine Justin went through the same thing but he seems to be selling plenty of kits now.

You may have noticed thre merge collectors taper from the fours before they expand again into the one. Extra design time but better performance.

Inside the race merge collector is a trapezoidal pyramid that also helps the flows. Not sure if I have a photo somewhere.

They are removable easily because they have a break in the face plate and can be fitted while the starter motor is still attached. Little hooks on each end help position them too.

It's a V8 friendly FD forum too. Mods look like doing them!

looks like a great build!

How do you like the AtomicRex steering rack?  Is it the assisted rack or non assisted?

What does the car weigh full of fluids/fuel?

Im hanging for a set of those headers walt! they look sweet! im hoping they sound just as good as they look!
It's never a pitty to LSx a FD. It's like giving a homeless guy a job and helping him be a productive member of society.

Very well put together build Walt.  I'd be very interested in a set of headers as long as the price is right (RHD here also).

Keep it up, you're getting close! :)

Mark:
The manual rack is supposed to be 2.5 turns L2L from memory but seems to be even better. Was 1.9 around the workshop.

Car has 270mm slicks fitted to the front and the steering is VERY light with no engine. Steers easily from boss without steering wheel.

Has not been on ground since engine went in. Still on hoist. We will have to wait til it is finished of course with 15 litres or so of engine oil and whatever the coolant cap is with these cars, plus wiring etc to get a feel for it.

With 13B S/T it was 1267kg dry (one of the heavier cars here) but has lots of cage and 3 fuel pumps etc etc.

Aiming for no weight gain with V8 but might be tall order as most of the components have been chosen for safety and endurance. The seat for example weighs 10KG ($2500) but they make an almost identical one that is 3kg ($7000) for V8 Supercars

The seat was made by RACETECH in NZ for the factory VIPER GTS and under Daimler's rule they insisted on double the FIA impact standard. Those seats have been tested at controlled 40G impact and passed. Apparently in NZ one car had a seat survive a 63G impact. But they are heavy as a result. But hopefully safe for me. I am not aiming to be the fastest car, just up the front somewhere at sensible race speeds. Say GT2 GT3 race car speed.

The seat has 90 degree shoulder bolsters and excellent side helmet restraints which fit the FD shape, unlike most seats. Also fits my 100kg body fine, unlike most Euro seats that are designed fro 65Kg Italian kids

Expected start date around late August.

Will post video of start ups

Pedal box in

Because I am using a Racetech Viper GTS seat, the seating position changes compared to my previous Velos seat. It meant the pedals needed to be moved forward and at first tried to mod the FD pedals.

It was easier to just install a Tilton Pedal Box and this also solved the problem with RHD Clutch Master Cylinder clearances

It now means i will have a brilliant HARROP twin master cylinder adjustable bias system for sale at some stage. Awesome with aftermarjet brakes and suit LHD and RHD. It is shown in some pics of build.

As I am using VE Commodore DBW pedal only needed 2 pedal Tilton

Not finished yet but here is am pic.

We used the FD pedal mounting points and fabbed a plate to it so the pedals worked better

Thanks Dan.

It's been a busy week.

Dry sump mostly plumbed. Used the black lines because they look stealth but they are also softer with the teflon outer so less likelihood of scratching paint etc. Nice to work with. The black fittings are Marine Grade double annodised so more durable and less likely to scratch - hopefully. Maybe one downfall is oil leaks don't show up so easily?

Ended up using an AP Racing MC for the clutch. Nicer fit. And reused the Brembo MC's from my old Harrop setup.

Also fabbed a top bracket for the AC Evaporator. Considered an under dash hot rod Evaporator but cheaper, nicer and smaller to use OEM late model FD Evaporator with an alloy top bracket mounting off the roll cage. Will use a fan of some sort to suck air thru the Evaporator. Maybe a small Radiator Fan. Will try to hook up to OEM ducting and fan switch

Plumbed the surge tank with outlets from both rocker covers.

Also fitted up the Turbosmart FPR.

Brakes lines completed, DS 13 litre oil tank plumbed, A/C Drier fitted, NEW DBW pedal ($122.56 local Holden dealer) and special high pressure fuel line with special fittings($64.26 new)

In the background is what I suspect is (for those who do not know this fanous FD) the most collectible or second most collectible FD on the planet. Bathurst race winner and current lap record holder - Record was WAY back in 1999. Not bad considering the latest cars are still chasing that record. It won "Class A - Supercars up to $300,000" and the BMW 335TT with 3 years professional race development and two leading Pro drivers that won the race in 2010 did a best lap time 6 seconds slower than the white FD SP.

It has been sold to a collector who will probably restore it to original race livery (while he has a Jap spec FD professionally built up for competition). He obviously thinks the white SP is too valuable to actually use?

Hope you like the pics.

My next job will be a race dash. Probably a Racepak IQ3 Data Logger. Anyone know anything about them? I seem to recall Kyle did one but no real info about issues (if any) on that thread.

We weighed it at 2404lbs / 1090kgs

51/49

It still needs:

Battery PC925 or similar 12kgs
Fire Extinguisher / Possiblly fire system ???kgs

Fluids say 32Kgs: (Engine/dry sump = 15litres/kgs; Transmission = 4.4 litres; Coolant = 12 litres; FD - 1.6)

Then there is:
glass x 4 ??? kgs
headlights, ??? kgs
1 door, ??? kgs
wiring ??? kgs
E38 C6 ECU ???kgs
seat belt ??? kgs
wiper motor ??? kgs
exhaust ??? kgs

Any guesses on where it might end up?
